When re-downloading wiiware and vc on wii U can you download them to a SD card and if so what happens if you download them to the sd card you already have them on?
Does anyone know if you have save data on both the Wii and Wii U, what happens after a transfer? I'm planning on getting back into The Last Story, but it has been so long since I've played it that I think I will be lost if I just start up where I left off, so I think I'm going to start over from the beginning. I thought I'd start playing on the Wii U just because I can, but what would happen if/when I eventually transfer my Wii stuff over? Will the save file on the Wii not transfer (that would be fine)? Or more likely, would the save file on the Wii U be overridden by the file on the Wii (that would suck because I would obviously want the Wii U file)? Thanks if anyone knows the answer.

You probably need to delete them off the SD card first, it will probably say the file already exists...

The save file on the Wii U will be overwritten. If you want to keep that Wii U save file then you should back it up to a USB device before you do your Wii to Wii U transfer. I had the same thing happen when I did my transfer. It warns you during the transfer process that you are about to overwrite your save file on the Wii U.
I think I might wait until the Wii VC comes out before I transfer mine over to the Wii. I'm still going to be using my Wii, anyway, since I still have so many gamecube games. I might as well keep the WiiWare and VC on there, too.
Same here, that's I why I don't want to do the transfer yet. I guess I'll just play my Wii games on the original Wii still until I decide to do the transfer. Or I could just delete the save file off of the Wii since I'm not going to use it anymore. Would that work, or would there still be something in the Wii memory saying that game has been played before and will still overwrite the Wii U file?
can´t you play the VC games in Wii U´s menu if you download them again in the Wii U eshop? instead playing it in the Wii emulator (and then play it again in the SD card option)
Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.

You can only transfer one Wii to the Wii U. You can't play any of the Wii VC games while in Wii U mode, they have to be downloaded and played in the Wii mode only,
Is it just me or does the Wii menu on the Wii U look really pixelated? I haven't played any Wii games yet to compare but the menu looks worse.
I thought that also... I tried some VC games and they looked the same as they do on the Wii but the menu does look funny... maybe because of going through HDMI now...
Regarding game saves, are there still locked game saves, as in ones that you CANNOT backup to an SD card? Pretty much all of the online Wii games had locked saves. Are they still locked after transferring them to the Wii U?

No; I was concerned about this as well. I have two game saves with online content that cannot be copied to SD and they transferred without incident.
Memory management in Wii mode is unbelievably naff though - it really is like having a virtual Wii right down to having the same need to "clean the fridge." If you've got more downloads than space in your Wii now you'd best hang on to that SD card - you'll still need it! My biggest disappointment about this machine thus far...
I should also note that only the Wii transfer process will copy those problem Wii saves because once copied to Wii U you will find that just like a real Wii you cannot copy save files for games which were locked on the Wii - brilliant. So if there's a midlife update to Wii U will that mean that I need to install the Wii Transfer Channel on my virtual Wii to transfer my data to a new virtual Wii? Seriously I don't get this. It would have been better to have the Wii emulation somehow invoked by the Wii U OS to run software as needed - not run a whole virtual Wii environment. At least we could take advantage of the Wii U's expanded storage!
Yes, that was very disappointinig, I figured I would be able to transfer everything over to the Wii U and have more memory. I don't have space for any games in the Wii memory, my save games have filled all available internal memory completely and when I play certain games I have to copy save file back and forth to the SD card. I never expected the Wii U to have a Wii mode with the same restrictions.
1. So it sounds like a save for a game with online features will transfer, The Last Story for example. Is this correct?
2. What is left on the Wii? Is it totally formatted? Do Gameplay Records (via the Nintendo Channel) stay intact on the Wii or transfer to Wii U?
1. Yes that's correct.
2. Everything that can't be transfered to Wii U will stay on the Wii.
