Hi, i recently upgraded to a wii u due to my friends toddler breaking my wii and so far its been fab.
However i cant connect my old wii charger docking station to the wii u console as the connector is the wrong way, the slanted edge is not on the correct corner for the wii u.
Please tell me there is a cheaper way of fixing this without having to buy a complete new chargng station. I was under the impression that all the old wii stuff was fully compatible with the wii u.

I'm unaware of any licensed chargers that plug into the Wii like that. Most, if not all, peripherals that work with the Wii should work with the Wii U, but I think the charger you're speaking of was not approved by Nintendo. You might need a new charger. Can you post pictures to give us a better idea?

Im not sure how toost a pic
The connector for the charger plugs into the power jack at the back and the power cable plugs into the back of the charger connector.

I hope that makes sense , if its not a licenced charging doc how would a licensed one connect? I bought this doc from argos x

So it uses the AC power, then plugs into the Wii? You could just use the Wii power cable for your charger, then plug in the Wii U by itself with its own power cable, if I understand correctly.

Oh yes thoat could work ill give it a go n report back.

Do you have a charging station? How does it usually connect to the wii if its a licensed one?

I have a charging station that doesn't plug into the Wii at all. I just plug it into an outlet and set my Wii Remotes on it. It takes a special battery pack, though.

It worked. Wires everywhere but we can now multiplay yay!

weird, the only charging station(that was plugged in the Wii) I knew about used the USB port, my cousin had it and it was slower to charge than normal rechargeable batteries...

Other unlicensed chargers plug into the USB slots of the console or by themseleves like breskey said. The licensed one uses a 3DS charger and dock and comes with one battery pack for $40 or something.

I had exactly the same problem when i got my wii u, as scar said i just use the wii cable to plug it in as a standalone unit. Why they decided to do that baffles me a little considering how wii peripheral friendly the wii u is!

That's weird, never heard of anything like that before.

I stick to official products (except when no other options are available). I use the official Wii Remote Rapid Charging Station for my Wiimotes, but I have a cool Nyko Pro Controller charger that docks two controllers magnetically, and it works REALLY well too. So I guess 3rd party accessories can be good, if you know how to separate the wheat from the chaff. I'd stay away from 3rd party battery packs though. Those are crap and lose their charge quick.

I try to look for official or licensed products when shopping for accessories. As of late, though, I've moved on from docking stations for my Wii Remotes and just use rechargeable batteries.

The Wii U and the Wii do not have compatible power bricks so that's why if your third party charger depends on connecting to the power brick it wont' work.

And my 2 cents is go with Nimh rechargable batteries over some charging station. More reliable and flexible and the batteries hold their charge so just keep spares fully charged and ready and that is even more convenient than a charging station.
