They could say it's a Wii 'U'pdated.
It's a Wii with a 'U'nique controller.
It's a Wii 'U'niversally for Wii U and Wii games.
It's a Wii 'U'nited by the Miiverse.
It's a Wii for 'U' the gamer.
There you go Nintendo, you can have that advertising idea for free. Need any more help and I'll charge by the hour.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

They did say what the U stands for. The "Wii" stands for a wide enough experience for everyone to have fun (We would like to play) where the "U" stands for a deep enough experience for the hardcore gamer (The new way for You to play)
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Wii U is supposed to be a console for everyone, from your family and friends playing games together as "WE" (Wii) Or for "YOU" (U) the gamer who wants to play by yourself. Because Wii U is supposed to focus on both the casual and the hardcore gamers. That's why Nintendo is trying to get a wide range of different games for everyone's tastes, from Wii Party U & Wii Fit U, to games like Assassin's Creed and Bayonetta.
it's a pun using wrong english grammar and a really sick sense of humor that almost killed the console...

No really, it stands for U. You. The Wii to You. Or something stupid like that. Iwata explained it when he revealed the console. That won't sell consoles.
It doesn't matter what the U stands for (it's you, playing VC games while your parents watch tv) or what the slogan is, if they don't advertise it.
There was a 1/2 page article in the paper today about Wii U, stating that the price will drop from $349 to $299 on Sept 20. That's how you generate sales Nintendo style, advertise that the price will be cheaper THREE WEEKS FROM NOW. Might as well not even bother selling Rayman or W101 now, nobody will be Wii U shopping until then.
Someday we'll find it

What's the 360 in XBox 360 stand for? Do the people got it know or care? What about the One in XBox One? What about the i in DSi? What was that all about? The SP in GBA SP? Did the public ever know or care what those names were about? Lets not also forget that when the 3DS was doing badly people made threads like this blaming the name.
It's not the name, it's the lack of software. If you think it's the name then you're ignoring the fact that ridiculous names are everywhere in tech

DSi- the "i" might mean internet
Xbox One- Microsoft said that it's because it will become your one and only entertainment device hooked up to z tv or something...
@swordx
Actually I'm fairly sure that the 'i' in DSi refers to the fact that it has a camera or "eye" on the back. Point is that at the end of the day consumers don't know or care about the name. If it has compelling software it'll do alright regardless of the name. You can even call the thing something as ridiculous as "Wii" and it can do fantastically well.
