Topic: Which secondary Kong do you tend to use the most in Tropical Freeze?

After playing the game all weekend my girlfriend and I found that we used Dixie nearly 100% of the time. We were just curious which Kong the NL community tends to rely on.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

I was expecting to use Cranky the most but I quite like Diddy myself.

I love Diddy Kong (obviously lol) but the extra height that Dixie provides is just so useful.

It would be cool if the game indicated which Kong you used to help you beat each level (kind of like 3D World). I know it's probably not in the game but that would have been kind of cool. Even cooler is if you could pick a Kong other than DK as player one, or mix and match the Kongs.

I've heard that Dixie is a much better option than Diddy, but you can kind of look at it like a built in difficulty setting for the player. Want a bigger challenge? Try beating the game using Diddy. Want a little easier time? Using Dixie can help ease some of the difficulty. I dunno, haven't played the game but just some of my thoughts that could maybe extend the replay value of the game if you are really into it.

I definitely miss just being able to play as Diddy or Dixie in single player like you could in the SNES titles, however, these new games in the series are built around the mechanic of DK being the largest Kong with the smaller ones riding on his back. Still, it's too bad that you don't have that option.

Dixie gives you a little bit of an advantage, Cranky gives you a bit of a disadvantage.

I don't need a disadvantage in this game.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

For whatever reason I still prefer playing with Diddy, but I should probably start using Dixie more.

I only used Dixie but only because that is who my two sons were already using. I'm looking to try them all out tonight.

Dixie, then Diddy for those long jumps instead of high jumps. Rarely Cranky as it's more difficult really. Still helps to jump higher.

I find that Cranky is very situational in terms of his usefulness (i.e. spikey levels lol), while the other two are just useful all-around. I do find that Diddy makes the underwater sections a bit more difficult due to that jet-pack giving me boosts by accident, but maybe that's just me as I suck at the underwater levels.

Still, it's an outstanding game and I hope everybody is enjoying it out there.

@Diddy_Kong Kind of, but not really. Cranky is actually incredible for most levels, in terms of speed running. Dixie's great for levels with more pit than ground, in speed running, and Diddy gets used most often in levels that are heavily water. Funny how speed running turns all of their uses on their heads.

On that note, I tend to prefer Cranky. Not because speed running, though. Just my preference.

@UGXwolf It's funny - I really liked Cranky when I was first starting out, but then once the levels started getting trickier I started picking up Dixie whenever the barrel came along. Also, DKC 2 is my favourite in the series, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I haven't tried any of the speed runs yet, but when I get around to it I'll keep your advice in mind

Oh, and I completely agree with your Top/Bottom 3 for Smash Bros 4

Try out Hard Mode. You can play as a single Kong there.
Well it's obviously harder, but you are able to play as Diddy or Dixie as you wish. ;D

@BlueBlurlxM ... I honestly had no idea that you could do that. Thanks!! Now I actually have motivation to unlock Hard Mode!

Dixie or Diddy all the way they can jump higher then Donkey Kong on his own & I found the game really hard with Cranky.

Diddy for the most part. Dixie's OK as well, but she's more useful in the swimming levels for me. Cranky is fun, but I rarely use him.

After reading the whole thread, it seems to me that Dixie is the Peach of this game. Diddy is like Luigi, and Cranky is Toad. Thar is to say that Dixie is easy to use and will save your life. Thr First Order Optimal trick to not being brutally murdered. Diddy has natural advantages over DK and does nothing but help. And Cranky makes the game tougher, in most cases, but boy does he pay off!

Since this isn't in my review coming up, I can say this here without spoiling anything, lol...

I used Dixie the most. She was EASILY the most handy in the widest array of situations. When timed right, her hair propulsion can act as a brief glide or landing adjustment like Diddy's hover, yet she can also provide a vertical boost like Cranky's cane. Then, in the water, she is the only one with straight, indefinite propulsion, making water sequences naturally more nimble.

Dixie, is without a doubt, overpowered in DKC:TF

Those golden hearts that Dixie provides with her KONG POW are extremely useful. They certainly help when you're trying to 100% a level.
