I'm planning on getting a Wii U soon but I'm unsure of what's necessary. Could someone please tell me what I should get for it? (ie games, hardware, accessories, etc.) Thank you!
If you plan on buying a lot of big games via download (as opposed to disc), only then will you need the external hard drive. (Or if you plan on getting a white 8GB Wii U and want to download a game. This probably applies to demos as well.)
I never miss any opportunity on these forums to recommend Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It's by far my favourite game on the system, and this is coming from somebody who was not a fan of Donkey Kong Country Returns.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
If you're a fan of classic Survival Horrors I definitely suggest checking out Zombi U. I also recommend Wonderful 101 as it's one of my favorite games of last year, although it does have a learning curve for the controls so be warned. You can find both of these games for cheap if you look in the right places. (ebay, physical copies).
As stated above pretty much all the Nintendo 1st party games are winners as well.
List:
500GB-2TB external harddrive - you'll need this if you plan on downloading alot of stuff off of the eShop
Wii remote and nunchuck - this more depends on what types of games you want to play. Alot of games and the Wii menu uses the Wii controllers, so it's a good idea to pick these up. Good for multiplayer.
Official high capacity battery - this isn't necessary, but you'll get around 2.5 times more charge from this than the stock battery
Pro controller - lots of games use these. If you plan on playing multiplayer games that use a regular controller, these are a must.
There's alot of indie games to choose from on the eShop, along with lots of other games. Black Ops II is still reasonably popular with the online community(even moreso than Ghosts), so that might be worth picking up on Amazon. Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are good and like half of anyone with a Wii U has Mario Kart 8, so you'll always find someone to play with. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a good game always has people online. You fight big monsters, get armor, and collect things. Those are just a few games I would say are worth picking up. As far as accessories go, you technically don't really have to buy anything unless you want multiplayer, motion controls for certain games, longer battery, and want to download things, as mentioned.
