I'll be playing Twilight Princess HD first, but I still have Skyward Sword & Wind Waker HD sealed. Which should I play next?
Play one game, toss the other in the bin. You decide! I'll give you a little hint, the one you should play starts with ''Wind...'' and ends with ''...Waker''.

Say what you want about Skyward Sword, but it is a good game for newcomers. The handholding is actually helpful for people who are overwhelmed or intimidated.

Since the handholding in Skyward Sword consists mostly of a lot of text, the game gets very boring for newcomers at the start. In the beginning there is so much text and so little to do.
Wind Waker is so much better in the beginning that I guess newcomers should start with it.
@Dreamliner: Ehhh, playing through TP first is fine.
But if you want, you can start all three, maybe complete the first dungeon of each, then decide from there. There are so many conflicting opinions on the internet, it's difficult to find someone who looks at games like you do.
So, I'd say play TP. If you don't like it or get bored (as one is inclined to do in TP) then start either WW or SS (or both), as both I'd say are good for beginners.
@Dreamliner: Well what's your view on Wii motion controls in general? If you like them then sandwich the 2 games without Wii motion controls (TPHD, WWHD) with Skyward Sword (e.g. TPHD, SS, WWHD). If you don't like them then start with Skyward Sword as the way they're used in that game may change your mind (e.g. SS, TPHD, WWHD)
@Dreamliner: Both are excellent games, but I'd start with Wind Waker just because.
In all seriousness, I think Wind Waker is the more solid game. There's probably going to be a bit of change in the rules when transitioning to Skyward Sword, but otherwise both are awesome games.

That's a terrible way to confuse yourself with stories—especially with TP and SS! Twilight Princess sets up so much plot before the first dungeon and Skyward Sword, well, Skyward Sword just takes forever to get there.
But, but ... Skyward Sword is the prequel to all Zelda titles. It must be played first!
Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda for a number of reasons. On this topic, my favorite beginner-friendly feature is the save system. The bird statues — liberally scattered all over the place — let you save both your state and your location. Makes it easy to stop and resume later. All other Zeldas do NOT save your location. That was the hardest part of playing other Zeldas after Skyward Sword. Ocarina of Time (pre-Wii U save state) was the worst for me: spend 10-20 min getting to the boss, get killed by Bongo Bongo boss, restart at dungeon entrance, repeat. In Skyward Sword, you get a save statue at the entrance of every boss fight so you can immediately rejoin the fight with all your potions and supplies intact.
@rishisquid: True, but I don't think it's a good reflection of the series. Consider it after you've played some other Zelda games. The same way I wouldn't suggest anyone starting with Zelda 2 (of course, much less representative, but you get the point).
@Octane: Well, forcing yourself to complete a game you don't like is also a bad reflection of the series. It's just a suggestion if you get bored or stuck, it usually helps me get into games better later.
In the case of wind waker, would you count the forsaken fortress as the first dungeon? If not, then getting to the first one also takes a while there.
At least Wind Waker gets into the action pretty quickly. The other 2 take ages.
I totally agree. The forsaken fortress is perfect for the beginning and with map a real first little dungeon. It reminded me a lot of the first steps you did in Alttp.
My god, I miss the time when you were shaken up and immediately walked in the rain and dungeons. It needed just a few lines of text for the game to start.
