It bothers me how people compare the Wii U to PS4 or Xbone. To put it straight, nintendo could have made a system that does everything the other two will do. They could have pushed the envelope with hardware and made it amazing with graphics and blah blah. Would you like to spend 700 on a nintendo system?
Nintendo's plan was to bring something new and did so with its gamepad. This little device runs around 200 dollars alone! So add that up with a console like Xbone and you have a pretty damn expensive console.
Nintendo wanted to being a new experience to the table without costing too much. So of course they pared down the hardware so it would still be a very reasonable buy. Nintendo knows its not competing with the other two. It doesn't need to. Nintendo innovates, Nintendo doesn't follow. They always try new stuff and the rest sometimes follow.
PS4 is planning to bundle the Vita and I hear its gonna be over 600 dollars. I get the same experience for half that and my bundles come with a game or two.
You'll always come out ahead with the Wii U price wise. Maybe not with a large community and a large game selection but its got great fun games and a community that has fun together.
So we need to stop comparing the systems. We know the other two are powerful but bring pretty much the same experience they brought with the last gen. Nintendo only gets better.
Yea,the real gaming community all ready know it's not worth putting the Wii U against the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It's not designed to be on par with these systems. Alot of people now base a game on its visuals alone, its just what happens when the gaming community gets stagnated with those who play call of duty all day and claim to be gamers.
Dont let it get under your skin.

I love Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft - why? I am a true gamer.

Wii U should absolutely be compared to PS4 and XBox One. In fact, you agree since your entire post compares the systems using the criteria of cost. I agree, Wii U has an advantage when it comes to price point. We'll see if that is enough of an advantage to make the system profitable.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.

It doesn't really matter what we think: it's being compared and will continue to be compared. It's just the way it is. It's kind of like comparing chicken to beef, but hey ... I guess it's all meat in the end.

All three are 8th gen consoles so they should be compared to one another. I would have paid $400 for a WIi U on par with the other next gen systems.

I agree the gamepad was something new, however even Nintendo really hasn't shown if its worth it. How does the price being cheap add up with the Xbone's?

Nintendo is competing with the other two, any sell on the other two consoles is a sell that Nintendo doesn't get. They might not target the same audience but there's no doubt their in the same market. Its as redon as Blackberry saying we don't with Apple/google/microsoft cause we target the enterprise market.
The only thing I find honestly innovative from the Wii U is Miiverse.

The bundle is heavily rumored but we don't even know its real. While its true you get the same experience with the Wii U at the end of the day your getting two separate consoles for $600. Also the bundle would come with eight games since every PS4 bundle comes with a month of PS+
You'll always come out ahead with the Wii U price wise. Maybe not with a large community and a large game selection but its got great fun games and a community that has fun together.
But for a Extra $50 to $100 you can get a system with a large community, a large game selection and fun games. The Majority f consumers are going in nowing that they're paying more for one of the other systems knowing the support is better.
So we need to stop comparing the systems. We know the other two are powerful but bring pretty much the same experience they brought with the last gen. Nintendo only gets better
Now this is ******** Patronizing and totally showing your bias for Nintendo systems trying to shy away from comparasions while calling the others more of the same. (I some what agree) But than most of the Wii U's games ate literally sequels or upgraded versions of WIi/Gamecube games.
WAT!

The Wii U was $50 cheaper than the PS4 when it first came out, though. How are you supposed to explain that the PS4 is so much better for $50 more? $50 extra either gets you a game or 1 or 2 more components within a system. Obviously, it's the latter in regards to PS4... The only reason why they lowered the price is so that it could compete with $400 or $500 consoles. The Wii U is still a $350 console, and they're giving away some games that people would buy for the system when they first get it, like NSMB.U + SLU. They're giving people a better deal on the system and throwing in games.
How much better do you expect the PS4 to be when alot of us are still aware that the system is actually worth $350? Not to mention that Sony is probably taking more of a loss than Nintendo is. Supposedly they will be making profit, but Nintendo's system is cheaper and they're still selling at a loss right now. There's no way Sony can be selling the PS4 for $100 more($50 more if you consider Wii U's original price), be sold at a profit, and beat the hell out of Wii U in terms of specs. It's just not rationally sound.
So either the Wii U is more capable than people give it credit for, or the PS4 isn't as good as people give it credit for. It's one or the other.
Also, think about this... The wireless technology that connects the Wii U to the GamePad is probably the real cost factor were talking about here. The GamePad itself would be reasonably cheap to make if it was wired to the system or something. Now consider that the PS4 has the exact same technology in it, but you can't make use of it until you get a PS Vita(the same goes for Xbox One). By including the GamePad with the system, Nintendo has already made sure that people get the full use of their system right out of the box, so you're getting your money's worth.
The 3DS is an entirety different asset of Nintendo. PS Vita is playing a 2 in 1 role here and that costs Sony money to potentially leave a large part of what they've invested into the console on the sidelines.
I don't it get it sometimes. If people compare the Wii U to PS360 then people claim that they shouldn't and Wii U is next-gen but then if they compare it to PS4 and X1 then people say that they shouldn't be compared. So what do you want people to do?

Hey. Just build a PC. Wii U for Nintendo games, PC (which can do 1080p60 no problem if you get the right stuff) for everything else. Plus PC games constantly go on sale, so that offsets the cost of the hardware.
Lots of censorship here...

Be happy with their system. To me, when you need to compare the systems, its like your saying your nor sure you made the right choice with the Wii U. Each system has its own qualities. I'd much rather see what people think about the systems if they actually have it so they can give an actual educated response. I'm not bias to the Wii U. Matter of fact when Sony gets all the bugs worked out in a year I'll buy. I have always been particular to Sony in fact. I like my Wii U if fact too but I see PS4 and Xbone as an updated system, nothing really new except better Graphics and Xbone all in one approach to entertainment. Nintendo actually does bring something new with every generation.
I think that since the n64 had more hardware capabilities than the ps1 (aside from cd playback) and lost, then again the gamecube had more hardware capabilities than the ps2 (aside from dvd playback) and lost, Nintendo thought, "Oh, well, I guess having strong hardware isn't the answer to success." Then they made the Wii, which was clearly inferior as far as hardware capabilities, was a resounding success. So Nintendo has no reason to believe at this point that having the "best" hardware if the key to success. Remember, Nintendo has been in this business for a long time, so they are used to people constantly using the graphics argument (SEGA's "blast processing"), but when it comes right down to it, graphics are not the determining factor. So, Nintendo has been trying to find other ways to be successful. The Wii was a gamble, and it won. The Wii U has been a gamble, but it's not paying off nearly as much. So, naturally, Nintendo has to figure out where to go from here. But, what's done is done, and we're stuck with the Wii U until Nintendo's next home console comes out. So the Wii U won't be the most successful system of the 8th generation, but I'm still very happy with the system and am confident that Nintendo will do well enough to continue on in the video game business, so I have nothing to complain about really. Besides third parties, but I don't blame Nintendo for that.
