Nintendo probably treats Mario games and Zelda games like new consoles, endlessly developing something related to Mario and Zelda....
Not really. The N64 had Starfox which was revolutionary for its time.
Speaking of Star Fox, Miyamoto warned the developers of Star Fox 64 3D that if wasn't the best in the series, or couldn't sell, they would have to DISCONTINUE the franchise.... And Star Fox 64 3D sold 0.79 Mill.... Bye Starfox....
All but command and SF64 3D sold over a million globally, SF64 sold a little over 4 mil. By comparison Ocarina of time 3D sold less than half of the original AND the VC version. Being a remake is likely the reason it didn't sell, not a lack of popularity.
Considering a game like Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei only needs at least 700 thousand, they should be able to make Star Fox, F-zero, and Metroid work.
They need to just forget about Mario, Star Fox, F Zero, Zelda and all those fanboy games and start making something new... Nintendo fans are running their business into the ground these days
I thought every primary Mario game released so far has been excellent so I will most likely buy it. In fact, the only Mario game that I played that I did not like was Mario Strikers Charged and maybe the Mario & Sonic Olympic games if they count.

It's not bad for people to want to play sequels to games they love. Also, Nintendo has invested both money and time into branding. Why toss their beloved brands to the side? However, I kind of agree with you. I would love to see something new; and when I say new, I mean something other then a sport spin-off or party game. It's been a while since we saw something new and interesting out of Nintendo other then in the form of eshop games.

I'm still voting for Super Mario Dimensions, where Mario explores various dimensions that have their own environments, rules, mechanics, even graphics. Heck, there can be cameo worlds and/or DLC where Mario visits other Nintendo worlds (Hyrule, Dreamland, etc) like Sonic Lost World.
Expanding on what I mean, though, the overall hub would be maybe be Peach's castle, Bowser's castle, random Mushroom Kingdom town, etc, something like that with much exploration. Story could be something like Bowser (or maybe Wart or some new villain) is trying to harness power to warp reality itself into his own twisted world and tears are forming in the universe connecting these different dimensions, and Mario needs to go through the tears into those worlds to collect power stars (or something along those lines) to help him travel through more tears as he searches for the cause. And examples of other dimensions? An 8-bit dimension, a watercolor dimension, a dimension without gravity where you float and have to push yourself off surfaces to move, a dimension without friction where you can't stop moving, a dimension where everybody are pandas or frogs or some random animal, a dimension where jumping is impossible, an RPG dimension, and so on, I think I've given sufficient example. I mean, the only way we can have a greater scope than space is to break out of Mario's universe entirely, and I think it can be very fun and innovative... Plus gamepad possibilities are endless! It can vary drastically depending on the mechanics of the current dimension!
Feel free to add me on the Nintendo Network: ShadJV
Here's my 3DS FC, always looking for Pokemon X Friend Safaris: 2191-7643-5167
Peace!
If anything, I'm fine for it being a galaxy 3, however, if a follow up for another version of the 3D series, then hell yeah. 3D World was, and still is so fun and creative it's crazy, it's been a while since I had that much fun!
Nintendo is making another installment in the main Mario series? We JUST had one a few months ago (3D World), why would they make another one so quickly?
I miss the days where we got 1 main Mario title each generation. And if the this new game is Galaxy 3, I will stop buying Nintendo products.
Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

I think you unaware of the length of time it takes to develop a game....
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
If the next Mario game is high in quality then of course I'm gonna get it. I'm not some crazed Nintendo fan. If a game is high in quality and appeals to me then I will get it.
I HONESTLY think its a Sunshine sequel. Mario Strikers U also has a really high chance.
