@Mikes: Unfortunately, I found this to not be the case. I had 41% damage on me, and my opponent had 42%. My opponent still won.
I am really surprised many of you are experiencing lag issues. I haven't had a single lag issue from the tournaments. Some of you may want to check your internet speeds and your NAT types.
Earlier, I said that I thought the tournament mode was good, but I now think it is very flawed and disappointing. It's sometimes difficult to K.O. someone twice in just 3 minutes. I have no idea why Nintendo didn't just keep everything uniform - 2 stocks, 5 minutes. I think maybe Nintendo did this so tournaments would go by quicker. I think that was a bad idea. And, as I said earlier, I lost when I inflicted more damage on my opponent than my opponent inflicted on me. Just because I didn't move or attack as much? I call shenanigans on that. Different players have different play styles. Simple as that. Now, I don't see myself playing tournaments much anymore if it means I wait a half-hour to fight someone and then lose in the first round, even though I inflicted more damage on my opponent.

The tournaments being timed 3 minute matches is completely the tournament host's choice, not Nintendo's. Blame the tournament host for not choosing stock matches. Like NL's tourney...
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
I've not been able to get past the first round in a regular tourney yet and with the most recent attempt, I backslashed the bridge in the final few seconds which gave Meta Knight the win
This tournament system is really sucky. You can't make bracket tournaments (why not!?), and the other kind are glorified Mariokart rooms. And no 1v1 tournaments. All of this should be mandatory.
