If Nintendo made an FPS came to bring back "core" gamers, what would it be like? Has Nintendo ever had an ESRB M/PEGI 18 first party game?

I actually think it would be pretty hilarious if they did that. It would be an FPS with some whacky Mario twist, which could actually be pretty interesting.

They have produced some in the past, of course Goldeneye 007 was kind of a big deal They didnt publish Perfect Dark though, at least not in NA and Europe.. I think they only published it as a limited release in Japan. Rare published a lot of their own games for the Nintendo 64 that Nintendo got credit for, for some reason.

However, they collabrated with N-space on making Geist for the Gamecube. The Metroid Prime sequels were definetely more FPS than FPA, the third one felt a lot like a Killzone/Halo blend. So I think they have always had their own First Person Shooters.. I dont think they will go produce the next Call of Duty or anything though. And especially not a M-rated Mario FPS, haha.

If Nintendo ever made a Mario FPS, it would probably be something along the lines of Super Mario Paintball (which might actually be kind of neat...).

Singleplayer could resolve around shooting various targets through various Mario & Donkey Kong themed levels (Bowser's Castle, Peach's Castle, Donkey Kong Jungle, Luigi's Mansion, etc).

Multiplayer maps could be built around the same themes, each with their own design staples (lot's of places to climb up high in the canopy of Donkey Kong Jungle, for example).

Of course, there would be various Mario characters, each with their distinct advantages, and grenades would be replaced by paint filled Bob-Ombs, bazookas replaced by some sort of "shell launcher", etc.

I'll stop rambling now...

This was kind of a joke thread but some of you guys actually contributed really good ideas that plausible! I like the idea of first person Mario and shooting things like fireballs at opponents. That would a cool "battle mode" for a Mario game. Mario Paintball also seems like a pretty cool idea!

I've actually been thinking about my Super Mario Paintball idea a bit more, and have actually come up with something neat.

Singleplayer would consist of 4 different "courses", each with 5 missions, followed by a "boss encounter" (meaning 20 missions, and 4 "boss" fights, dwarfing the 10-15 missions you usually see in FPS'):

  • Peach's Course (Easy)
    1. Pleasant Plains (a grassy plain with plenty of trees & rocks to use for cover, while you you defeat opposing Toads & work your way towards Toad Town)
    2. Toad Town (Working your way to Peach's Castle, you fight your way through Toad Town, now with Toads shooting from rooftops, windows, and more)
    3. Pipe Pathway (The gate to Peach's Castle locked, Mario has to work his way through those iconic green pipe sewers. A more linear, hallway approach here, with paint spitting Piranha Plants introduced)
    4. Castle Courtyard (Starting crawling out of the moat, from where you ended up from last mission, you work your way towards the castle's entrance)
    5. Peach's Castle (pretty self explanatory here, as you work your way up the castles corridors)
B1. Peach (a one on one bout with Princess Peach in the throne room)
  • Luigi's Course (Normal)
    1. Paint Parkway (A sunny forested dirt road, with plenty a paint splatter along the way. Goombas & various Koopa Troopas are now your adversaries)
    2. Green Green Golf (referencing one of the bros' favorite past times, now Mario has to work his way through a golf course!)
    3. Cave Conundrum (Now inside a cave, Mario has to look out for surprising Swoopers & Buzzy Beetles)
    4. Luigi Raceway (First a fight through a garage, before coming to an on rails segment on kart. Make sure to shoot the other karts to make them spin out, and shoot down incoming fire such as green, red, and blue shells as well. The mission finishes on foot, as Mario makes his way to the winner's circle)
    5. Luigi's Mansion (This course will try to throw you off, so be on your guard! Those tricky Boos will keep you on your toes)
B2. Luigi (A bout with Luigi, but be careful, as he can suck up your fire & redirect it with the Poltergust)
  • Donkey Kong's Course (Hard)
    1. Ship Shape (Starts out with Mario defending the deck of a small ship from a few waves of enemies, all of a DKC flavor now. Then the ship arrives on shore, where you know have to work your way up the beach)
    2. Jungle Trouble (There's a lot to distract you, and hide your ever so aggressive foes here, so keep your eyes peeled)
    3. Mine Cart Mayhem (A little spelunking into an old mining tunnel eventually leads Mario to another on rails segment, this time on a mine cart)
    4. Heat Hot Rock (An erupting volcano makes for one spectacular, and dangerous, place for a paintball shootout!)
    5. Banana Palace (The golden halls of this place may look beautiful, but be on your guard, as your enemies are fiercer than ever)
B3. Donkey Kong (Watch the canopy closely, as the movement of the leaves will tell you where DK is going to snipe you from. Wait until he swings across the sky to take your shot)
  • Bowser's Course (Intense)
    1. Flaming Forest (Flames are disorienting & dangerous! Be sure to be on your game in this last stretch!)
    2. Smog Bog (Good luck making your way through this visually imparing purple smog, and movement slowing sludge!)
    3. Firecrack Factory (Factories are a dangerous place to be, especially those in the Koopa Kingdom!)
    4. Neo Bowser City (Bringing back a locale from MK7 here. Neo Bowser City was always an interesting place, and would work well here)
    5. Bowser's Castle (As Peach's Castle before it, this is pretty self explanatory, as Mario makes his way through the toughest defense in the game)
B4. Bowser (Spraying out a rainbow colored gush of paint from his maul, and being seemingly impervious from behind, Bowser seems insurmountable, but maybe he has a "tail" )

I'll give my MP ideas tomorrow, but I've got to get to bed, lol.

Time for Super Mario Paintball multiplayer!

You'd have your standard free-for-all & team based matches, as well as some "Mario-ized" modes (coin matches, etc).

There'd be 12 maps, built around the themes of the Toad Town, Pipe Pathway, Peach's Castle, Paint Parkway, Cave Conundrum, Luigi's Mansion, Jungle Trouble, Heat Hot Rock, Banana Palace, Firecrack Factory, Neo Bowser City, & Bowser's Castle.

It would support 16 players (split into two teams of 8 in team matches):

  • Mario (team Mushroom)
  • Luigi (team Mushroom)
  • Peach (team Mushroom)
  • Donkey Kong (team Mushroom)
  • Toad (team Mushroom)
  • Yoshi (team Mushroom)
  • Daisy (team Mushroom)
  • Diddy (team Mushroom)
  • Bowser (team Shell)
  • Koopa Troopa (team Shell)
  • Goomba (team Shell)
  • Bowser Jr (team Shell)
  • Boo (team Shell)
  • Hammer Bro (team Shell)
  • Wario (team Shell)
  • Waluigi (team Shell)

Wow RR529, you really elaborated on your idea! I could see someone making that in Garry's Mod or something. I have it but I've played it maybe once...I should really start playing it more and maybe I could make something like you suggested a reality

And SCAR392...I had no idea that game even existed! That's pretty cool! Oddly enough I made a game back in like 8th grade that was extremely similar in style to that, except you shot flying turkeys and the power-ups weren't Mario themed...déjà vu...

That would be their only hope of it being good. lol. Nintendo does not have a ton of experience in this department.

Yoshi's Safari.

It's first-person. You shoot. Boom.

If they made it as a joke game and it wouldn't take itself seriously, I think I like the idea of a Mario shooter.

But they don't need to make it Bomberman reboot style.

I seriously think Nintendo needs something like HEAVY RAIN or THE LAST OF US. Nintendo already has a wide selection of games appealing to a certain kind of gamers but they'd really be well off with a game that's cinematic and thrilling, getting a big media buzz and adults interested in its story. All the japanese "hardcore" games coming might be too alien to attract a wide audience!
