I'm sure it's a cool game, but I'm just not much of a PC gamer. So if they brought that game to the Wii U I would definately check it out

There are few PC games that I'm into, but I do enjoy the RTS games. I've always wanted a good RTS game for a console.
I'd personally prefer if they made a Starcraft game specifically for the Wii U, instead of porting Starcraft II. But I've never played it, so maybe it would be just as good on the Wii U.

I've watched expert Starcraft players on twitch.tv. To a clueless outsider like me, it looks like there is a ton of preparation (building factories or whatever and churning out drones/troops/whatever) and then at some point someone decides to attack and all hell breaks loose. Is that how it works?

Yes, I'd like to see games like Starcraft, Minecraft, etc. I hope they will (optionally) support USB keyboards for people who would like to use them. I've got this Wii-branded Logitech wireless keyboard I'd love to be able to use with the Wii U. It's been gathering dust for years because almost no games support it.

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

That's what I was thinking.
My wireless keyboard was incredibly useful for chatting in Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter, so is there any reason why it couldn't be implemented into gameplay too?

I've never played Starcraft and I don't play PC games but I've enjoyed RTS games when I've had the chance to play them, so I'd probably give it a go if it came to the Wii U.

Yes please. Warcraft 2 was one of the best games I've ever played. Since then haven't really played the RTS games but it will so fun on a Nintendo console.

The standard RTS formulae has you collecting resources (wood/gold/iron/crystals/whatever) which you use to build structures (normally for building units, R&D and defence) and units. You then send out your units to attack out your opponents units and structures. Last one standing wins. The standard RTS is pretty much Pikmin if the Pikmin had the ability to build stuffs. Also without Olimar because normally you select your units directly and tell them where to go rather than having them follow a character you control directly on the ground.

I wouldn't buy it. StarCraft on consoles sucks.. You need a keyboard to play competitive RTS games. The amount of buttons on a regular game controller aren't enough.

can't see this working on the wii u without being drastically dumbed down beyond recognition.. it's a very fast paced game and there's an awful lot of things you have to be managing at any given time...I think it would be too complicated trying to do it all from the touch screen.

lmao no. The only things they have in common is that both games start with an 'S'.

Yeah there's no way it would even remotely resemble the PC game. They already said the touchscreen will be very basic, and there's no way an Ipad could quickly move around enough to cover all of Starcraft's elements.

This would be a horrible port.

Based on comments, I'd say that it would be better if they made an original Starcraft game for Wii U. Starcraft: Ghost, maybe, but I'm pretty sure they've flat out said that's not coming back.

Why the heck did my topic get locked? The mods want me to bring this one back from the dead? Continuing on from mine: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/starcraft_2_on_wii_u...

There's also the fact that it would be impossible to play this on both screens at once - you'd need to focus entirely on the Wii U tablet.

Why do people always assume with the Wii U that you'll be able to dedicate complete attention to both screens at all times? The limitations of this gameplay style are going to shock a lot of people I think.

You don't need to pay attention to both screens at once anymore than you need to pay attention to the minimap and the gameplay area at the same time. Just the ability to use the gamepad as a tablet or mouse pad to control a cursor on-screen would be good enough for me.

Oh, if there was nothing important going on on the Wii U screen, I guess it could possibly work.

Assuming every button on the Wii U gamepad was a hotkey of some kind. Still be a pretty clunky way to play.

Tasuki

They only way I can see it work is if they make it so that the Wii U tablet works like a touchscreen keyboard, which honestly I can see. Than you could map your buttons out to the keys like you would on the PC.

hooray for thread necro........

@AlexSays
Both are RTS games and so both have the same main elements. Resource management, tech tree upgrades, building defences and the deployment of units to attack the opponents base. Swords and Soldiers is a really stripped down RTS game but it's still an RTS, it's to Starcraft what Mario Bros is to Super Mario Galaxy.

If they make a original Starcraft for Wii U, with compatibility with some sort of keyboard, Wii U sales in Korea would keep Nintendo alive for decades ;p

But seriously, this would be awesome if its done right.
