I was on the fence about this game because I am usually a single-player gamer and almost never play online (I've only done a handful of Mario Kart 8 races online), but I really liked this and want to get it now. My fear about it, though, is that it was fun because it was everybody's first time and so I was actually able to be competitive. I know I won't be able to play it as much as most people, and so I'm afraid all the people who usually play these types of games or have a lot more free time than I do will learn all the strategies, level up, and then mop the floor with me when I do play and it won't be nearly as much fun as it was this time where we were all on an even playing surface.

This was my fear too. But it seems like merely swimming around and painting as much as possible while avoiding enemies is a valid strategy for at least one player on the team. Even if you don't get to practice much you could have fun doing this. Not to mention that, once ranked battle is unlocked, you should be paired with your skill level.
I really don't see why nintendo couldn't have thrown in a 2 player split screen mode. (that isn't battle dojo) I'm not saying 4 player, but 2 player at least. Why can't player 2 just use the pro controller, and pull up a map by pressing minus?
Agree. Not enough local lan options for multi-player with family. Now if they made a 3ds version and you could use your 3ds screens, and your wiiu game pad, plus the tv sceeen, I would be all about it.
So, $40 local coop DLC? Greaaat idea.
$40 for a portable version of the game, that just happens to enable local play. The problem you have with split screen multiplayer is that if one person got to use the tablet and three people did not, the ones without the gamepad would not be able to use the jump to team mate feature, or know where on the map needs ink.
Yeah, I don't think voice chat is at all necessary. The game is too quick for it to be that useful and the only thing you'd really want to communicate is where on the map you need to cover.
Voice chat is totally overrated as a strategy tool. It would mostly be nice for talking casually to friends during matches. But, honestly, how many of us have a lot of friends that own a Wii U?
So I can't be bothered with timed demos. Is it any good though?
For what was playable, just the two maps, four weapons and Turf War only, yes. So I can't wait to play the entire game. Especially if you live in Europe, where the game is just a ''budget'' title in terms of price; €40 just like Captain Toad and Kirby.
I found the demo to be quite enjoyable but my two biggest grievances against the game are the paltry map selection at launch and the odd decision to lock map rotation to a four hour basis.
I'm still undecided whether or not to buy this day-one...
I played some games! What can I say? It's EXCELLENT! Tight controls, minimal lag, and an idea that totally works! Not to mention the music and the visuals!
I have to admit, I did think the Splat Roller was a bit OP, but after playing for a while I found out they are actually no match for Splatter shot users. I just wish we could perform quick 180° turns so that Splatter shot users can effectively wipe out the intimidating threat.
I do have to argue, there's the Dynamo Roller that deflects enemy fire when shaken. That would be the OP weapon, in my opinion...

I found that if you hold back then press y to reset the camera, your character will immediately turn around.
You should've done what I did: one minute before the last Testfire was over, I started a tutorial session - and it's still running. Sure, once everything is inked, it becomes painfully boring, but it's better than nothing, right? RIGHT?! I DON'T NEED THERAPY!
I almost wish I had thought of that. I really need to play it again.
Ah man, I played a few rounds and what can I say? I wanna play some more of this game!!! It's so freaking fun, and that is really saying something considering I've never liked shooters. GIVE IT TO ME NOW
I really hope that Splatoon's reviews shock NIntendo into putting voice chat in their games more often.
Reviews who would claim that voice chat is of any practical use in the 2-player Turf War matches are just trolling. Voice chat for the modes available in the August update would probably be of use, but that can't be reviewed at launch.
Well, you could talk to people, and...yeah. I think people are overreacting with the lack of voice chat, to be honest. If you want voice chat, that's fine. But are you really going to let it ruin the entire game for you? There are literally people who're going to boycott the game just because of the lack of voice chat.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...
Fun game, but I got bored rather quickly. Contrary to whatever the developers said, I feel like I would have had so much more fun if I could actually communicate with people. The guns were okay, sans the sniper, which I don't like since it hardly acts like a sniper. It doesn't reach very far. Not worth $60 in my eyes.
The only thing that could make me buy this game at launch would be if they allowed us to have 2 players play online against other people, rather than only local 2 player mode. Fun, but not fun enough for me to buy it soon. I hope it gets better.

Yes, players without the gamepad would be at a disadvantage, but that's better than nothing right? Plus like I said, they could bring up a map by pressing minus, and then select where they want to jump to.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

I wouldn't care much about voice chat with random matchmaking.
But there really should be an option to have voice chat with friends while playing online together.
