@CaviarMeths Here's the thing though, she actually already has voiced Samus in the Prime games! Those grunts you hear Samus make when she is injured? That's Jennifer Hale even BEFORE Mass Effect! Pretty cool.
Yes, I know. I was referring to her doing actual lines of voice acting as opposed to silent protagonist tomfoolery.
And about Metroids; a major issue that needs to be addressed is the dissonance between the narrative of 'Metroids r so bad' and the gameplay reality of 'Metroids are kinda pushovers.' If Metroids are indeed a huge danger then they should be treated in a survival horror sense; they do huge amounts of damage and need to be snuck around least Samus' morph ball be cracked like a walnut (leaving her atomized bits to whatever end).

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

@Kaze_Memaryu: There's one aspect of post-Fusion narrative that I would like to see preserved. The ending of Fusion, assuming there were no other samples of Metroid DNA created a fairly interesting dynamic. Samus would be the only reason that Metroids could be brought back. Metroids are necessary to control the X-Parasite population, but are also have to potential to be used as a devastating bioweapon. I think the best depiction they could give the Galactic Federation would not necessarily be as a corrupt, power-seeking group, but as people whose ambition in experimenting with Metroids, Space Pirate Weapons, Shock Coils, Mother Brain, X-Parasite, etc. for potential defensive capabilities do not realize the dangerous potential of their actions.
That's quite an ingenious thought! Not only would your idea prevent the Metroid from becoming irrelevant to the series, it would also keep the Federation more involved without completely antagonizing it.
@I-U Most of Samus personality was given to us during Metroid Prime (scans and body language), Fusion (monologues and dialogues with the AI), and Zero Mission (the foundation of her motivation to fight, the "hint" at the Chozo Ruins), but many of these traits are noticeable in hindsight. The thing is that people barely pay any attention to it, which is sad. But Nintendo also kinda neglects to give us a bit more information on her "career" before Zero Mission. We don't really know what happened after she leaves the Chozo to join the military all the way until becoming a bounty hunter and fighting the Space Pirates in Zero Mission.
I think Retro should make a Super Metroid style 2D game for 3DS and a sequel to Tropical Freeze for Wii U. That would dispel worries about Other M being involved because there isn't really a strong story in the 2D games outside of Fusion.
I actually prefer my Metroid games to have less story and more exploring. Oh Motherbrain is up to no good again? Let me explore this here planet and get to the bottom of it.
That's about all the storyline I needed for Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid. Hell even Prime didn't have much of a story... tons of back story you could find along the way but nothing forcing you to watch cut scenes

I liked the cutscenes in the Prime Trilogy. Those games would be lesser without them.
I'd love to see a 2D post-Fusion game that goes back to Super roots. And seriously, that "fugitive Samus" concept is totally viable. Check this out: Metroid channels Alien in a bunch of ways, so why not visit Alien 3's setting? I mean, trying to escape a GFed prison-planet filled with creepy/dangerous incarcerated creatures would be fun---and the whole "lost gear" thing would be natural since GFed would've taken it all and stored it somewhere (and possibly tried to clone metroid from her Fusion suit or whatever). Even better, if she "accidentally" triggered a prison break during her escape attempts, winning back her stolen gear from prisoners/monsters as she tries to escape would be a super satisfying adventure. This is what I'd want---more show, less tell, and still the same great exploration and thrills. Make it happen Nintendo!
