I think they should do remakes as they would pad out the major droughts that third parties arn't likely to fill. Will they take away from Nintendo's resourses, both yes (only small teams would handle a remake, its not like the entire Galaxy team would remake Galaxy 1 and 2 lol) and no, Nintendo could pull a grezzo and let other companies handle a remake under their supervision. Remember the Wind Waker HD team made that remake in 6 months while they were working on ALBW, the starting stages of Zelda U, and quietly taking their time with Majora's Mask 3D, its obvious new titles are Nintendo's main gain although that doesn't mean we won't get our fair share of HD remasters/remakes this generation going into the next one.
Hmm... I see... I like new games and love them. What's wrong with a few more remakes of forgotten classics, though? Like REALLY forgotten.
Nothing.. that was what i was pointing towards, also how did you gather that i didn't like new games? lol (i obviously do)

CAPCOM! Where is my HD remaster of ONIMUSHA?!!!! WHERE!! WHY NOT?!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111oneoneone
Oh sorry... wrong company.
With Nintendo... other than some N64 games, that sadly won't happen, I can't really see a game that could benefit from a remake. Nintendo should actually abuse the hell out of VC, but instead, they do... well, everything else.
Is it strange that I keep reading your posts in Clarence's voice? (matches your profile pic)
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

I'd love some HD ports, but I don't want to see then wasting whole Dev teams on more projects like Wind Waker HD and then making that one of their main games for the year instead of something new. No new games are lost when Sony gets someone on to port the Sly trilogy, but some of Nintendo's main guys were tied up for 6 months redoing a game that didn't need redoing. Wind Waker on Gamecube looks gorgeous when upressed to 1080p.
If Nintendo were to do this they might as well just do it through Virtual Console. Emulation is a lot easier than remaking stuff from the ground up, and once you have an emulator for a particular platform, you're basically set for the most part.
The only reason I can see why they aren't doing this right now is because it didn't work for the Wii too well, which is unfortunate, because they could really use some support right now. The release schedule on Wii U is barren.
Best thread ever

Nintendo has Virtual console. I don't think they need to do remasters when they can just release the game on Virtual Console instead, it would probably be easier and cheaper. The only difference is that VC doesn't get as much coverage as a New Release but I remember Earthbound was a pretty big deal when it released for Wii U. So I would say they should keep up with VC and just make New Games
I understand the benefits of VC. Its just the Xbox One and PS4 are getting so many ports and the amount of complaining is so small....
PS4 and Xbox One are getting a lot of ports currently cause it is giving developers an opportunity to learn the hardware to make better games in the future. It is also helping with the cost of Game Development rising. Nintendo doesn't have that problem. Nintendo's system has been out longer, they already went through the growing pains. (the reason why the first year or so had a kinda barren release schedule) So rather than them taking their time and putting it towards remakes, why not let them keep making new games and release VC games? You still get to play classic games while enjoying new ones. Nintendo already gets a lot of criticism for making the same games over and over, can't imagine actually remaking games would help with that criticism.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

No one can't do that "there isn't new games on Wii U/3DS" garbage because there ARE new games!!!! Come on, now. Just let guys like Grezzo work their magic like with Ocarina of Time 3D more often! That's all I'm saying. Is there a double standard against Nintendo just because the Wii U isn't selling like crazy????
I always buy the best version of a game. So if the controller is the same, I would buy HD versions of games I like for sure. In other words, I would appreciate HD remakes.
But whether it would be the right decision for Nintendo to make or not, I can't say for sure. They have a lot of money to spend, so it seems like they could have hire third party studios to take care of it without having new projects suffering. But I suppose a lot of classic titles in HD could take away some sales of the newer games. I guess the output should be moderate.

There are new games already on Wii U/3DS and more are coming! The developers using ports as an excuse to get more famailar with the hardware is bad, in my opinion. They want your money so they remake a popular game from last gen. That's how I see it! And I still have nothing against them.
What new content do you want to be added to old games?
If Rockstar can add a 1st person mode to GTA V remake and that made people excited then surely Nintendo can add more content to an older game.
Like? They've already released remakes for their biggest titles, OoT, Star Fox 64, Mario 64, Wind Waker. MM is on its way
What other games could they remake and realistically expect to make money off of? And how much new content can these small inexpensive studios add to complement the old game?
It's quite a different scenario from Rockstar, one of the largest, most expensive developers in the world.
Rockstar is a terrible developer when compared to Nintendo. Didn't you know that Nintendo can do no wrong by re-releasing games with minimal effort?

That is part of it. There are growing pains with a new console and to help with it a lot of companies will take a few months to port a popular game for some quick money and give devs experience with the new hardware. The Wii U doesn't need these as Nintendo is already familiar with the Hardware. Maybe a year and a half ago they should have considered this. It might e smart for Nintendo to ask 3rd parties for HD remasters of old series from 3rd parties. Like what if Ubisoft came out with a Splinter Cell Remaster trilogy for Wii U? This could give Ubisoft some quick easy money and making their devs more familiar with the hardware, while giving the Wii U 3rd Party games. I can't think of many series 3rd Partys could do this with (because of licensing issues mostly) but it could work.

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Possible remakes? I dunno... Maybe a Fire Emblem remake or a Metroid remake or who knows? There's possibilities that could work. That's all I'm saying. Nintendo has new games and is getting new games. A few more remakes couldn't hurt. Like 2-3 only.

It would hurt by having to take people off the projects they are currently working on and putting them on these remake projects. I would rather Zelda U come out in 2015 than a Twilight Princess HD remake come out and have to wait another year for Zelda U.

... People really want more Zelda remakes?! Nooo!!!!
Metroid and Fire Emblem hardly sell much on their own. There's no reason to think a remake will do very well with a relatively small number of Wii U owners out there. And what new content would they have, without needing the original developers?
What you're wanting doesn't sound reasonable. You're comparing Nintendo to every single third party dev as if it's the same situation.
No, not really. I'd rather see them focus more effort on putting games on the virtual console. I'm not usually interested in paying near full price to play a game I own and have already played.
