Topic: Should Mike Tyson get another Punch-Out!! title?

I imagine Tyson would be up for it as long as the paycheck is decent. If this was ever to happen I'd be curious if they went a modern 3D route or keeping it classic 2D sprites. With the retro titles like Megaman 9/10 and NES Remix, I'd love to see a sequel to the NES Tyson punch-out.

There's something about the original puzzle, memory, and dexterity game that is just rare and perfect. A new lineup with classics thrown in or even cameos with kid dynamite being the end boss with a new arsenal of moves.

I love traveling light through Europe and run a blog about it at OneBagTravel.com

I don't think Punch Out needs the partnership anymore. Back in the day it was a big name they could attach to the game that caught people's attention. Now I think Punch Out is a big enough franchise (especially with Little Mac being in Smash)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yeah, been playing the old Punch Out!!! quite a bit recently and it hasn't aged a day - it's still incredibly modern. And the Wii version is rather good. Would love a new one on WiiU. But as for a partnership with Tyson...we have more chances of a FPS based on Charles Manson tbh.

Where have you been there were two sequels to the NES Punch Out, Super Punch Out on the SNES and Punch Out on the Wii. Just because Tyson isn't in it don't make it a sequel. Besides the other characters are known well enough especially Little Mac that they don't need Tyson. That would be like adding Jeff Gordon to Mario Kart.

Punch-Out!! originally began as an arcade title for Nintendo in 1984.
I'm assuming the 1983 copyright date on the promotional poster below is a reference to when it was developed?

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was released later in 1987 on the NES. It was the only PO game Tyson has appeared in. (FYI - Iron Mike has retired professionally from the sport as of 2006). With that said, I'd love to see "the champ" back in action, albeit a Punch-Out!! game!!!!!!

Also, Rage of the Gladiator is a nice Punch-Out!! clone that is set in a fantasy/medieval world if u need a quick PO fix.

Sure, bring Iron Mike back, but in his present form he'd probably have to take the place of Glass Joe or something.

No. Mike Tyson is a PR nightmare. It would be like putting OJ Simpson on the cover of Madden. Back in 1988, he was a golden boy on his way to superstardom, but now there is too much controversial baggage on his resume for him to be picked up by a family-friendly company. And never mind that he was never the same elite "champion" after losing to Buster Douglas in 1990.

@micronean

I don't see why there should be any baggage. Mike Tyson did go to jail for what he did and has served his time.

Plus, he was in The Hangover and was well received in that. He just finished a Broadway show (yeah, Iron Mike had his very own production). And he's been interviewed many times lately (just saw him a few weeks ago on TV). I don't see him being a PR nightmare, but that's just my two cents.

Well WWE put him in the WWE Hall of Fame and still does things with him occasionally and they are going for a more family friendly image nowadays so that there should tell you about his "baggage".

@micronean: The stuff he did is over and done with and he paid his dues. Comparing him to OJ Simpson is bad comparison since OJ never payed his dues for the murders he committed.

I personally don't have anything against Mike Tyson. I just don't know if Nintendo would ever hire a spokesperson (because that's what he would be, even if he just had a photo of him in the box; he would represent Nintendo and Nintendo would represent him) with a criminal record--never mind that he's got tattoos all over his face and body, which is a no-no in Japan, and one of Mao Zedong just to rub it in even further. I couldn't see him fitting Nintendo's image.

They were right to remove him to begin with. I don't want to see a convicted felon Wife beater as a spokes person on my games.

I actually think every Punchout game should've had a different famous boxer attached to it. That would've been great.

True story:

Tyson lives one community over from me here in Vegas (Henderson, to be more precise). His house is literally less than a 10 minute walk from mine. I've crossed his path a few times on the walking trails around my home. My first encounter with him was when we were both filling our tanks at a gas station. I spoke with him for about two minutes while we gassed up. During that short time, I had to tell him that Punch-Out!! was one of my all-time favorite NES games (which is true). I also know that he didn't care and barely ever even played the game. He offered me a free car wash coupon (the station prints them out if you fill up your tank). I politely accepted, shook his hand, and told him that his tattoo was sexy.

Why do I tell you this? To brag.

i used to live in the same neighborhood as george foremans nephews around houston texas. one of his nephews is roy foreman, in fact roy and his little brother look just like george himself, down to the bald head. they even practiced boxing. we used to hang out at the park and go bowling. they would come over in a maroon jaguar even though they lived at the end of my neighborhood lol. ive known a few people that knew george and they all say he is very stingy when he offers food. i thought that was funny.
