Since when have Zelda games been all about saving a damsell in distress? Yeah, the original and Skyward sword did this, but Ocarina of Time was all about defeating Ganon while Zelda took care of herself. Zelda was barely a character in Twilight Princess. Tetra certainly didn't need saving. And Majora's Mask didn't even feature Zelda!

It's not a "skirt-like" tunic. It is a tunic. Typical garb for a medieval era. Were all those people in history that wore a tunic feminine, too? Even though they were slaughtering each other with swords? That's pretty feminine, huh?

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

You save Zelda in Zelda 1, Zelda 2, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Minish Cap and Skyward Sword. I'm pretty sure there's a point in Wind Waker that you save her. The other Zelda games I either haven't played or don't remember. But saving Zelda has always been a part of most of the Zelda games. Even if Zelda was able to hold her own for a large part of the game, if there was still a point in the game where you had to save her, then it still counts as a game where you had to save her.

Oh, and Zelda was in Majora's Mask. The opening scene. But, yeah, she didn't need saving in that game.

I think it's a good idea. Not that the Zelda games have an overly compelling set of story lines, but a female Link would open some interesting narrative opportunities.

Heaven forbid Nintendo try and do something innovative with narrative, though. That would be almost as crazy as having a Mario game that doesn't involve Peach getting captured.

Gods, this thread is already a throwback to the 50's. This can't possibly end well.

Get off your high horse, please. Nobody said a woman can't save a woman.

It just wouldn't seem right having Link as a girl. It would go against the whole Zelda tradition. I'm not against female characters (I love Metroid), but just don't turn Link into a girl!

Thats an interesting idea and I'm sure Nintendo could do a great job but Zelda fans had a fit over Wind Waker's cel shaded graphics as it is, I can only imagine their reaction to this. To me Link and Zelda always reincarnated as themselves the same as Ganon/Ganondorf .

I don't see Nintendo working the romantic side of things but if the hero can fail to appear I don't see why he couldn't just so happen to reincarnate as a women. They could have the backstory be that the hero "failed" to appear but was actually overlooked due to everyone assuming it would be a guy. Kinda like how in Full Metal Alchemist everyone assumes Al is the Full Metal Alchemist and are shocked when they're told its Ed.

Or they could just pull a Super Princess Peach. Link could fail and it could be up to Zelda to so save the day.

Link and Zelda are descendants / ascendants of each other. There is only one Ganon / Ganondorf.

And I quote:

I don't care if it was in jest or otherwise. Not cool.

i like where this is going :3

to be absolutely honest, though — I wouldn't mind it if Link was a girl. I'd like it more if the person (male, female, or otherwise) in the 'Zelda' position actually took some responsibility for their kingdom and saved it themselves, though; i think that would be more revolutionary to the series than switching around the gender of the main protagonist.

@WhiteKnight I guess I didn't take what he said that way you did. Well, still, that's just one person. No need to call out everyone in the thread.
