That's because they won't. Sony will overpower and win all. Nintendo will fall into a pit of casual gamers and be forced to play carnival games and wii fit for the rest of their lives, never to resurface.
Excuse me, but have you forgotten about Microsoft? people have been bad-repping them for a long time too, and they've surely proven the good they can do for the console when they've got their act together. Now as far as Nintendo goes, honestly, all I really see them doing with the Wii U is carrying over the DS concept to concepts. So if this is the best they've got for a next gen console with the 3DS already struggling, no offense, not to mention all the already existing shovelware for the DS line-up itsself, but they've already begun slowly digging their own grave here. As for Sony, for 1 with the PlayStation Vita releasing and their rationality as to why they didn't implement 3D, that being because with the Sixaxis playability you definitely won't be able to view it properly. Well, what do they expect is gonna happen when people are using the Sixaxis functions on the PlayStation Vita? They won't be able to view the screen properly, so I wouldn't go out on a limb just yet and say "Sony wil overpower and win all". Heck, they practically copied Wii's own controllers, reguardless of the game mechanics, physics, etc. PlayStation 4? We don't even know what's in store for us, yet, so no speculation there. Consumer entertainmanet hardware may be Sony's department, but software is Microsoft's department, which is obviously what's more important to most gamers than most other entertainment uses for both consoles; NetFlix, Zune, Twitter, etc.
Why does everyone take zezhyrule at face value? To be honest, I find that more hilarious than his actual comments sometimes. :3

In other news, Reginald Epicurus predicts that soon Cooking Mama and derivative games will surpass the FPS in popularity.
And here I'd read that Raymond Socrates had attributed that eventual honor to the Imagine series. Guess we'll have to wait and see whose prediction reigns supreme :3
This reminds me so much of the N64 and GameCube eras. People (the gaming media) were saying that Nintendo was a lost cause, that they should go third-party. This happened with 2 subsequent console generations, yet Nintendo managed to pull out of it alive (and the huge success of the Game Boy helped them a lot). Despite an entire legion of "journalists" betting against them, Nintendo still stuck to their guns and forged ahead.
Nintendo is stubborn like that, much like a certain other company we all love to hate (Sony).
Now Nintendo is at the same crossroads. The Wii and DS are dying out, and Nintendo is struggling with their new handheld. Nintendo has never taken a hit with their handhelds before (unless you count the Virtual Boy, but that's hardly a handheld), so they seem to be entirely lost with to what to do. Instead of the constant bashing and calling for their doom, why don't analysts and the media try to offer some constructive criticism?
As much as I can't stand how lazy Nintendo is with regards to a lot of things, they are technically well positioned to take over the game industry if they wanted to. They have the casual gamer/moms in the bag. If they can reel in the hardcore gamer and make their platforms the 'everyone' platform they can easily become even bigger than they are now. But sadly I see no signs of that happening with the 3DS being handled the way it is, and the Wii U not looking like it's going to fare much better. I think a lot of hardcore gamers would love to be able to own a Nintendo system and get the same hardcore experience they can get on the others, but that's not gonna happen if Nintendo can't even make a regular controller...
Nintendo is scared to cater too much to the hardcore audience because that isn't a sure thing for them.

But see that's exactly the problem right there! As long as Nintendo keeps cutting corners to make cheap hardware and imaging big (And honestly, how far has that gotten them or any of the big 3 in the industry lately, which isn't their fault at all; it's mostly that the devs most likely have no idea what to do with it so little time and research. To much, too soon), they're never going to reel in the hardcore audience because nobody is going to take them seriously anymore. This is why Microsoft and Sony are the leading examples of what those gamers want.

Angry Birds has casual players in the bag, not Nintendo. Kinect is claiming a good bit of that territory, too. If they want to stay in the race (for the short term, that is, anyone who thinks they'll be banished from consoledom forever because of one bad year puts a lot of faith into his crystal ball), I hope people are so obsessed with tablets that they want a Wii U even though they just got an iPad and a 360 with Kinect not so long ago.
My not particularly informed opinion: Wii U is already a year late, and maybe not the right kind of console to begin with. But even if it's not the next big thing like Wii and DS were, neither were the N64 or Cube. They can bounce back later. I don't care if it does well so long as I get a new Smash Bros.
Nintendo is not even a real gaming console anymore. Its like comparing a PS3 to a little gimmick Digi-Pet Toy
What do you mean, Nintendo isn't a real gaming console anymore? Are you saying Nintendo isn't a real gaming /company/ anymore (in which case you would be really out of place on this website...) or that the NES isn't a real gaming console anymore?
I'm pretty okay.
