Are you angry, also at Coca-Cola because Coke still tastes the exact same as it did 25 years ago? No. You're glad that they're still doing the same thing because it's delicious and you love it and you don't want to get something DIFFERENT every time you go to a vending machine, you just want MORE of what you already know you love.
Coke isn't the same as it was 25 years ago. In order for me to get Coke that is good, I have to go to Costco where they import it from Mexico, because over there they still make it like they did in the 80's.
In a sense, this tears apart your entire argument. Coke isn't as good as it was 25 years ago. The same can be applied to Mario's 2D adventures. The NES and SNES Mario games were made before I was born, and I can tell you that Mario Bros. 3 and World are better games than the New Super Mario Bros. games (at least the first 3. I haven't played the U one, but plan to. Heck, the game might finally break the trend). Yeah, some of it is opinionated, but it isn't nostalgia, because I played World and the DS game at around the same time, and I much preferred World. I played Wii and 3 at around the same time, and I had a better time with 3. Maybe it's the difficulty, maybe it's the music, maybe it's the graphics, but it isn't my nostalgia.
If I were to go out to my friends (all teenagers) and ask them if they would want Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. Wii, pretty much all of them would go with World. Fact.
I wouldn't. Super Mario World is certainly not the best Mario game in existance, nor more interesting from a level design standpoint than New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Fact: Super Mario Bros 3 is over 15 years older than this, and it's also over 15 times better.

Bottom Line: This game is beautiful, fun, and challenging and deserves every bit of credit it gets. It is and always will be one of the best Mario (and Wii U) games ever.
When its all said and done a review is just to help you make a decision on buying a game.
Just because a game is given negative reviews doesnt necessarily mean you'll hate it and vice versa.
Take Super Mario Sunshine for insistence, that is one of my favorite video games but ALOT of people would say it
is the worst 3D Mario game Nintendo has to offer. Reviews are just someone's opinion, I can imagine that the
NSMB games are not your "cup of tea" I heard people say they dont like OoT so maybe your one of those
people that HATES certain games that everyone else
is fond of :3
Honestly can't we just end this discussion? There is no deffinitive answer to this. Didn't like the game? That's a shame. Liked the game? Good for you. Don't think the same as other people? That doesn't mater, you liked/disliked tha game. They don't want you to go on and rant about how you are right and they are wrong, just like you don't want them to do the same. Just accept that both of you have different opinions about the game, and unless you can have a friendly and fun discussion about it (which rarely happens on the internet) then just go on talking about a game you both like.
I always love all the Mario games, I love picking out the subtle differences. I like seeing what old enemies/gimmicks have returned, and from what game they came from originally, and how they've changed since then. I like to see the totally new enemies/gimmicks. I like seeing how the animations and sound effects have changed. But I might be weird like that.
If only I could keep playing it. I downloaded it and it was the first Wii U game I played, and then I tried Nintendo Land, and realized my Wii U didn't read discs. I sent it in to Nintendo, they gave me a new one, and this one doesn't download games. So now I can play Nintendo Land, but not this.
while the artstyle of the characters remains the same and a lot of the music as well. I see where you are coming from.
but the artstyle of the stages has changed dramatically due to the care they took in crafting the backgrounds and the levels themselves (as opposed to nsmbw where nintendo just slapped things together) The difficullity has also returned in many levels. Which once again, nsmbw lacked.
The addition of the challenges add a whole new level of replay-ability. the option of someone using the game pad in order to help or hinder players.
I know where you are coming from, I was in the same boat at first feeling like everyone was going overboard (I hated NsmbW it felt like a cheap quick cash in that nintendo barely even gave attention to when creating it) but NSMBU now this title does deserve the 9 that the earlier title had received (nsmbw deserves a 7)
I've been gaming since the snes era, so I have played my fair share of games. and NSMBU deserves the score. As it comes neck in neck with my other favorite mario game: Super mario world.
I haven't played New Super Mario Bros. 2 or U, but judging from Wii and DS, I can tell you why I enjoyed the NES games more. The main reason? Difficulty. The newer games aren't as hard. I didn't like my hand being held during the duration of NSMBW. Also, I'm sick of the Koopalings. It was cool the first two times, but now it's just annoying. It was also cool in 3D Land (despite the fact that there were only 2...) because it had different types of gameplay, but I'm sick of the same exact bosses with the same exact mechanics. Even NSMDS had original bosses! I hate to say it, but Mario (at least the new portion) is getting similar to COD in being completely unoriginal. However, the games are still good (unlike COD), and I'll probably play them and have an amazing time. I just think that Nintendo could do better and be there creative selves.
