for example, i payed 340$ for one of my complete copies of earthbound, so its only fair that nintendo should charge maybe like 100$ for the download.
they can put little samson on virtual console and charge 300$. nwc download for 9000$
it would make me feel better about my purchases.
they can call them "rare downloads" and we can all be collectors! just think about it
operation rare downloads is in full effect.
is this thing on?

This makes total sense.
There's no reason that people should get an advantage and get something cheap just because they download it instead of buying the physical game.
Nintendo would be smart to do this.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

ive contacted nintendo about this. ive got a whole list of rare games they can add on the rare downloads program.
as the price for physical carts goes up they can raise the price on virtual console games.

The older the game, the more money its worth. This concept makes more sense!
I wonder how much ET would be worth on VC

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

if this ever happens it will be the day I give up on Nintendo completely

just a nintendo gamer on a nintendo related site (who wouldve seen that one coming?)
the random user name randomly became a Pikachu.

But the reason Earthbound is so much is because apparently the game didn't do well at release, what with the slogans saying "this game stinks", the larger-than-average-box apparently making the game more costly as a result...plus with the N64 around the corner, it is a miracle that people can even still get complete games...and this is considering that kids likely would've thrown the packaging away.

It isn't Nintendo's fault that the Smash Bros series suddenly revived/produced some love for the game that might have caused people to covet copies over the year, in fact the physical game still has some value but only in minor things such as the flashing effects of PSI moves being bright and not dimmed/faded/slowed down.

Having rare downloads just seems like something against Nintendo's philosophy about money, the only cases of downloads being rare is if they're retired for some reason, or taken down for copyright reasons (like TMNT, presumably due to Nickelodeon owning them) or simply for being taken down for no reason at all. (like the DKC Trilogy in EU, unsure of US)

DELETE_ACCOUNT

This is ridiculous, nothing which can be put into a digital format is rare.

I rarely throw the word "genius" around, but I think it appropriately describes this idea.

This topic sounds like a joke to me.
I probably had joked before about Nintendo putting Stadium Events on the Wii and charging alot (considering Namdai had released a Wii version of the Power Pad, it could've been playable but Nintendo probably doesn't want to add support for a third-party peripheral to the VC).

GuSolarFlare

great idea! nintendo should also make those rare downloads hidden in the Eshop so people who want it would have to search every suspicious pixel one by one if they wanted to find it!

Is it me or you're actually just upset about it releasing for so cheap while you forked over hundreds for the original cartridge?

No Nintendo should call them "Vintage Downloads" and include Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Everybody who buys Earthbound for 10 bucks plays right into the hands of evil (a.k.a. smartphone gaming). And you've got the nerve to call yourself hardcore ...

They should also charge extra premium prices for remakes and collections of old games. Atari Classics Collection? That's like 800 dollars right there.

Who cares that a game like earthbound is absolutely not worth more than 10 dollars? Since it's old and overrated and some people will pay exaggerated amounts of money for it, it means others will pay too.
