since the ideas for prices here are getting hardcore I say they should charge super ultra premium prices(over $800) for people to get games that weren't released in their region yet and they should name it Global Key System!!!(as it "unlocks" the region lock in a certain way)
NOW THAT PRINTS MONEY!!!!!!!!

They may not be rare, but they are gold mines!

This is an awful idea, I can't believe some people actually agree that this is good. It should be a crime to sell a digital rom file for $100. That's just plain ridiculous.

TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL ahem that is a really bad idea, that will just encourage piracy, beside you bought it secondhand, new or not for the price you paid for. but to even suggest that for your justification to feel better inside is just plain silly.

id sooner emulate the crap out of it then pay that much for a download of all things

This might be the best idea I've ever heard. Nintendo wants to sell more Wii U's and this is the answer.

ive contacted nintendo about this. ive got a whole list of rare games they can add on the rare downloads program.
as the price for physical carts goes up they can raise the price on virtual console games.

Have you heard back from Nintendo? I hope they agree with you.

How is this a good idea? Especially at the moment. If you had your wii u break, that 300 dollar game you downloaded is gone. There's a reason most people haven't played rare games. Most people don't have a spare 300 dollars to pay for a game.

If a physical game is getting $300+ dollars than it is a matter of high demand and little supply, but what happens when they release it even for $100 dollars? Huge supply, and the physical game becomes a mere collectors item. Will it hold it's value strickly to collectors? Maybe, but I think this would hurt the rare game collectors collection value instantly, and these rare games should be left alone. Plus, most of these "rare" games are rare because they werent very good. The reason most persons would pay that kind of money for a game is in hopes that it will be worth more money some day, not to play the game, so I expect the VC would sell about 10 copies of any game that was priced this high and it would be to the kids that have gold plated laptops just for looks.

I'm surprised anyone is taking this seriously

I still think nintendo could let players pay a small price(a retail game price) to region unlock since the region lock aparently won't be taken down anytime soon..... it's better than not removing it at all.

Oh please do. That way there can be another uproar. eShop and digital stores will not be region free anyway

The Wii U doesn't need anything to enrage people towards other consoles right now. It's sales are already abysmal right now. Doing that would hurt Nintendo more than help them.

@LZ_McDuck and @Jaz007 yeah I know but the region lock is still stupid and it looks like it will last until next "next gen" what's in more than 5 years in a good case..... plus the ideas in this thread are so MAD already so sugesting something crazy won't make it worse.

I'm not sure if this is a troll thread or not, but no, it costs Nintendo (as far as I know) no more to put Earthbound on the VC than a common game. I for one would never pay more than $60 for a game.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

for example, i payed 340$ for one of my complete copies of earthbound, so its only fair that nintendo should charge maybe like 100$ for the download.
they can put little samson on virtual console and charge 300$. nwc download for 9000$
it would make me feel better about my purchases.
they can call them "rare downloads" and we can all be collectors! just think about it
operation rare downloads is in full effect.
is this thing on?

Uhm Nooo... I don't think this is doable on any account.. just cause I had to pay 100+ for Vandal Hearts for example does not mean that if it became a download I would want Downloaders to pay equal or more.. besides.. if the max on say just about anything the competition has is 10-20 bucks or whatever.. despite how rare a game is.. then yeah.. it's going to represent a problem.. but I think say 10.00 dollars for a Eshop version of Earthbound is worth it.. compared to what you get in physical form.. I just don't see this as a viable strategy . and it would just make Nintendo lose potential customers..

So yeah if you don't care and want to make Nintendo lose customers do to this and the rare game which will most likely get most of the publicity compared to the rest they are offering.. go ahead.. and put another knife in the company.. but if your sensible on any level.. you know 10-15 is the most they can charge despite what you paid.. you are a collector.. of the physical versions.. others who wish to have it and download is the best option is not so.. just deal with it..

back to the RARE downloads subject I have two stupid Ideas:

  • Nintendo could make the rare downloads actually a discount for games rarely downloaded!!(alright this first one's not stupid or crazy)

  • Nintendo could pay seriously high royalties to Microsoft and put RARE games on the Eshop(and possibly end bankrup with happy costumers in this act)!

i think nintendo should demand for the rights to crocker bad fur day and banjo kasuie(not rare in a whole because most of old rare gone) because its not like microsoft uses those ips. then remake them for 3ds or wii u.
