Topic: Nintendo exclusive Sonic Boom for Wii U and 3DS

I'm really excited about it. I'm patiently waiting to decide which console I want to buy, Wii U, PS4, XB1, and the Wii U actually has more games that interest me more than the other consoles to be honest.
I got a 3DS, but I want to play Sonic Boom on the big screen, so this has defiantly persuaded me onto the Wii U side.

The designs for the characters are pretty bad IMO. Not looking forward to it.

I'll just wait and see how it turns out.

Wait. The TV show is a comedy? Why is the game being marketed as serious in that trailer?
And I swear, Sonic has done that exact pose in the trailer where they're surrounded by enemies before and didn't look that stupid. How longer did they make his legs!?

@RetroJosh I'll be honest I've really wanted to pick up a PS4 just for the beauty of the system itself....but there is really nothing on it for me yet, nothing interesting at least. The best game I can find is Resogun, and that's not enough for me to buy a system for, Octodad should be cool too. Dead Rising 3 on Xbox One looks great....but I'm not going to Microsoft ever again after all the trouble they gave me on both my 360s (personally vendetta). Wii U I have like over 30 games now, most are small digital titles, but it still counts with my 17 disc games. I have high hopes for the Wii U in the coming future when it comes to game quality and Sonic Boom is a promising exclusive that just keeps sweetening the deal. Hopefully by the end of 2014 there'll be some games that interest me on the PS4. I can buy Watch Dogs on the Wii U, so that won't turn me.

We didn't really see much gameplay, so it's hard to make a proper judgment on this. I don't think the style fits Sonic, though, it's too edgy and realistic. You can tell this was made by Naughty Dog devs.

From the trailer it looks like this will be a different style of Sonic game, which is nice. As much as I like the traditional formula, it feels to me that most of the last eight or so Sonic releases have been largely the same with a different gimmick tossed in. Whether or not Sonic Boom ends up being a good game or not, I can only hope that they're trying to do something different to the norm with the Sonic franchise, like with Dark Chronicles.

They didn't say "a higher level" so i'm fine with that statement.

@64supermario I'm exactly the same. Primal Carnage & Battlefront are the only games I'm interested in for PS4, and I'm the same like you with Microsoft. I got a 360 for my birthday a while back & it became faulty within 3 months, plus they don't offer any good deals, while Sony is giving away free games every month via ps plus.
Wii U has a ton of games I'm interested in, plus I'm a student so I'm quite busy, and can't be fully playing these full story driven games for hours on end. Plus I'm not interested in these zombie games and games that look like a movie more than a game.... cough Ryse cough.. But yeah I definitely have the same view as you on this one.

I assume they don't have high expectations for this one. otherwise it would be planned for a release in japan too.

@GuSilverFlame The tv series won't be airing in Japan, so why would they release the game to a country that doesn't even air the show its based off of?

They probably want to wait and see first. The game could be much better than Lost World but being saddled on the Wii U isn't a n ideal situation especially if the cartoon series and toys take off.

Plus Japan as a Market doesn't matter when the cartoon series isn't Planned for Japan until next year. The fact that the cartoon is getting a tie in game when Sonic X didn't days they have some faith in it.

As far as looks I'm down with them. Sonic being so tall is the only one that weirds me out.

@RetroJosh oh so the series won't air the series there either. well now it makes sense(I mean not airing it in japan, even if it ends being good it has an extremely high chance of not being accepted in japan) because the game is tied to the tv series.

@Shingi_70 this also makes sense... Sonic X was great(when I first watched it, I was about 13, maybe) and it didn't get a game so if this series will get a game it might as well be something great

Well Sonic as a character is far more popular in the west than he is in Japan, even to the point of mwrchasdings. Dudes had a long running comic series since the 90s and is currently holding two ongoings.

Sonic is like Zelda (or most series in the industry) where the Western sales matter much more than the Japanese sales these days.

@shingi_70 didn't know that. maybe it's where I live but most people I know couldn't care less about sonic. but since it's more popular in the west than in japan. I'm now looking forward to Sonic Boom(because my theory was happily smashed to dust! )

I've gone back and forth and back and forth on which next-gen console to get. Every time I think about going with the PS4 instead of the Wii U, I see something for Tropical Freeze or a new video like this released! LOL. I'm definitely swaying towards the Wii U right now. Like you said, there are just more Wii U games right now and in the near future on my wishlist.

This game looks very promising, and I can't wait to see more info on it. It's had a long development cycle, and the devs are well known for doing some great things. The future is looking bright for the Sonic series!

Really have no expectations this will turn out well, which leaves open the possibility for being pleasantly surprised at least, though like many I really am not a fan of the new Knuckles.

It will be easy cosplaying as Sonic's new Boom design. Just wrap bandage around the shoes, around the arms, and wearing a Chucky mask and I'm good to go.

If Sonic Boom plays like Banjo Kazooie with Sonic speed, I'll buy it.

the new character designs may not be the best but i do believe that the new developers deserve major props for including other playable characters besides sonic that's something sega never does anymore plus the fact that the new cartoon will use the exact voice cast from the games is a very big step up from every sonic cartoon that has come before it
