If you were wondering about the delay, then you may want to read this email from GameStop I got that was about the issue.
Thank you for your patience. The SM had some time off last week and I was able to speak to him about your concerns today. LEGO City Undercover was in ‘release’ status and was in our shipment log when you talked to Zach. Zach was under the impression that it was in the store based on the shipping log information and prior title releases, but could not be sold until Tuesday. Nintendo didn’t ‘release’ the product to GameStop until after it’s official release date. Although it was in our shipping log, the product didn’t get released for shipment until Monday and didn’t arrive in store until later in the week. It is very rare that GameStop does not have a title on ‘release’ day, however, Nintendo chose to hold this product back for shipment until after release day. There was at least one other retailer that had the product on release day as authorized by Nintendo. GameStop is the leading retailer of Nintendo hardware and software and it was disappointing for us to hear and see that these other retailers had this title first. I apologize for the inconvenience this title has caused and can assure you that Zach was unaware of the release and shipping delays.
If you need further assistance at the store, please contact Nate, the Store Manager. Nate is aware of the issue and looks forward to taking care of your future gaming needs.
Sincerely,
Jesse Johnson

The thing I want to find out is why Nintendo wanted the not ship the game until AFTER launch day.

I have a feeling that either Zach or Nate (or perhaps both!) were paid off by Sony and told not to sell the Lego game as a way to hurt Nintendo financially. Whether or not Jesse Johnson orchestrated this whole thing, it's too early to tell.
I look forward to reading more email correspondence between you and GameStop in hopes more info comes forward and we can finally get to the bottom of this situation.

I'm gonna email Nintendo next about their decision to delay the game being available on launch day.

Sounds good. I'm interested in what Iwata-san has to say to you about this GameStop charade.

I only buy things on Amazon I can't get at a local store. There's some great deals online, but sometimes there's just as good of a deal just a mile away.
Lego being late was probably a mix of things, but there was always the digital version. That's how I got it.
