Topic: mind = blown that you can't play DVDs on the Wii U

You can't play them, you have to resubscribe to Live to be able to play them again. It's as good as losing them.

Wow shows what you know. I was trying to prove a point on how dumb your initial post was and your point of because Sony and MS does something according to you Nintendo should to. But you just don't get it do you.

Anyway, on topic. It's 2016 already. Who still buys physical films? People also complained about the lack of 4K blu-ray players in PS4 Pro. I don't see the issue. It's a neat feature, but the lack of it doesn't make the product less appealing. I don't even own any films on physical media anymore. There's Netflix and the likes, and plenty of other means to watch films online.

I'm not even going to dignify this with a response. If anyone is going to get this topic locked, it's you because you obviously don't know how to debate something without flinging doo doo.

@Rexcalibr: Wii and Wii U can actually play DVDs and CDs. I leave it up to you to find out how to "unlock" this feature.

Personally, it's a good idea for Nintendo to lock this feature to avoid too much drive wearing.
I don't know if anyone else tried logic: Nintendo makes games, not movies. They wouldn't gain a single cent for unlocking the CD/DVD playback feature. Well, if they sell it as a media player in the eShop for maybe 9,99€ maybe that would be a solution.

I really like my Wii U and I also was surprise when they opted not to include DVD playback. It is not a deal breaker for me and I'm ok that it does not.

I don't understand why this is such a heated argument though. People can have different opinions. If someone feels Nintendo is in the bad for not including media features then that is cool. If someone feels totally fine that Nintendo left the features out that is cool too. I would love to see more discussions about pros and cons and less tearing each other down. It just makes everyone look silly instead of enlightened.

@JohnBlackstar it think the argument stems from the op's assertion that if Sony and Microsoft do it then it's shameful for Nintendo not to. That's what's putting a bee in everyone's bonnet considering a console in the end should be about games.

Precisely. It was about how the OP presented it. The main factor for a game console is to play games. Now I can understand why Sony the very lease would want their systems to play DVDs, Blu-ray etc. because they have a movie division, Nintendo on the other hand doesnt.

Nintendo has always been about games and bring people together with gaming, not watching movies. They are not a film studio.

Second playing DVDS should not be the end all factor for a GAMEsystem. If you need something to play DVDS on you can pick up a cheap DVD player Nintendo shouldn't have to offer you one cause you are too cheap or whatever.

Even now we are starting to see game consoles trying to steer away from physical media such as discs and going towards streaming and digital downloading. Heck even Sony has seen that with the release of the PS4 Pro. Another interesting factors is that PS4 doesn't even play music CDs.

So yeah that is the whole deal to this thread. There really is no discussion or debate as to why Nintendo should or shouldn't just straight facts and logic.

Just noticed, NES Mini doesn't have DVD or Bluray playback...come on Nintendo, you can do better.
