I paid for and downloaded the digital version. It would be cool if I could play it now by changing the date on my system since it's already downloaded. I doubt it would work though.

I don't have much of an issue with them. For starters that list of items gives you quite a selection, more than enough to create a "standard" Mario level. And sure the point of the game is to create non-standard levels but still. I'm not at all opposed to the idea of giving people a limited pallet to start. I suspect the levels that will come out will be better for it.
And anyways, it'll take 9 days casually playing it to unlock all of the stuff. That's not a huge deal. Partly because I've been waiting for the ability to make and share Mario levels since forever. But also because when I got a bit annoyed by it I remembered Animal Crossing. I never complained about Animal Crossing doing the same.

Effectively day 1 you can create a simple level, day 2 you can create pretty much any level from Super Mario Bros. Day 3 you can create giant winged fish cannons. But if you want to have thwomps on rails? You'll have to wait until day 8.

@Megumi:
oh, I see what you meant. I thought you meant wigglers and question blocks for some reason. Yeah, I don't think they've shown those items. Maybe you could kinda get them working by putting coins/blocks on a track?

Yeah, dunno what they're really called, but Scykoh calls them Snake Blocks, so...yeah. xD
Closest I'm going to get are the coasters on the rail things, ah well. I was hoping they'll be in there by shaking the ? Block or the coasters, doubt it...though.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
The skeleton coaster thing is basically identical to the moving block platform anyways. At least functionally. The coin trail is a bit of a different story. I'm not sure if they will even allow you to put the coins on a rail, I don't remember seeing it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible.... but it's not the same.
Maybe a patch down the road will add some more complicated stuffs.

I would love, love, love for this to happen. Even just the first row of items for a few hours would be incredibly fun!

That seems like comparing apples and oranges. Plus, Animal Crossing allowed people to manipulate time whenever they wanted. It wasn't forced on everyone to play it day by day. I know I certainly didn't.

I remember seeing it but don't know which video it was.. It can basically be every Mario Maker video on YouTube in a short spot where they experiment with the level creator. I'm pretty sure I just don't imagine things.
You can basically put anything on the rail. Even Bowser.. So coins won't be a problem I think. ^^

I didn't time travel in Animal Crossing and I didn't have an issue with the way that game played. I checked in every day and didn't have any issue with that at all. So it's very much a like-for-like comparison the way I see it. If I'm ok with doing that in Animal Crossing I have no right to complain about it in this game.
I'll also add that in Splatoon there's not some "day" limit but some modes are locked behind a certain amount of play time. Which did actually take me a good while to get to so it was effectively the same deal. And I though the same thing when I heard about that. That it was kinda crap of them to be locking gear and modes like that. Then I played the game and forgot about it. Them forcing me to consume the game at a slower pace, if anything, allows me to enjoy the game more.

@Megumi
Are you talking to me? It was just a direct answer to skywake, NOT to you... -.-
Edit: To be exact.. I just answered the question to if it was possible to put coins on a rail.. No more, no less.
I can't see any hint on my answer that I was talking about any coin trails.... Or do you? ... lol

Fair enough, you like what you like, even if I don't agree. I just don't like the idea of any developer forcing us to play the game a certain way because they deem us unable to do so any other way.
