Oh, so people actually have to have strategy instead of aimlessly throwing items in a confined arena?

Also, turning invisible when you lose your balloons is only in multiplayer. And you don't get points when you're invisible.

Heh, but I digress. You said it was addicting. describe your experience.

I've always loved Battle Mode in Mario Kart and this is no different.

The opportunities for strategy have dramatically increased from past titles. The reasons are twofold.
1) You can only hold one item, making each attempt count.
2) it is not confined, you have to make your only shot count as well.

In addition, "Hard" computer players are actually hard.

However, I will admit that Team Battle is not as fun, considering that it narrows your enemies from 11 to 6.

My main complaints with this game:

  • Grand Prix is ridiculously unfair sometimes with CPU item spamming.
  • Somewhat frequent NIntendo Network disconnects
  • Roster is mostly okay, but isn't that great

Other than that, holy crap this is the best Wii U game to date, at least for me.

What about Battle Mode?

To tell you the truth, I've never been a huge battle mode player. I play in short spurts, so I don't really mind. I DO see the advantages of arenas, but I find that some of the courses, like Donut Planes, and Sherbet Land work out pretty nicely. Although its good to avoid toad harbor and bigger tracks at all costs.

Just got gold on all of the cups and difficulties, then I found out that I have zero stars in three cups. Welp, time to finish those up and unlock that gold kart!

Well, for the first time for real, I played MK8 at a friend's house for the whole day and we had a blast! Unlocked all of the characters and got loads of coins for him. On that note, I noticed that I didn't get coins when in first as often as everyone says. I typically got coins when I spammed the item button during the roulette wheel and whenever I didn't I normally got Green Shells and the like. We also played online a fair bit and only got disconnected once. 150cc Grand Prix though is indeed brutal... we had to team up just to make sure a human player won the cup. Also saw a decent amount of variety, no-one using the same character or kart setup over and over. That was nice.

I played Battle Mode once. It was alright, got to U-turn a couple of times. Had a fun time, though I see why some might not like it.
Side Note: I rather like Pink Gold Peach now... YEAH, I SAID IT!

Well crap...I hope you are right. That's a crucial strategy and a devious curve ball if you are right. I am definitely going to try that.

I hope so too. Note that I still got Coins on occasion regardless but it was not as often. It may just a coincidence and me getting a bit lucky but yes, try it out and see if you notice a difference.

I get those damn coins all the time so any relief, even if only psychological, will help.

One instance where I ALWAYS get the damn coin is at the very beginning of Mount Wario. There has been once where I got a green shell, but every other 30+ times I've always gotten the damn coin! Why include that as an item when there are coins scattered all around the maps??? (Of which you can only carry 10!)

Got this game yesterday, loving it! Bringing it to class tomorrow (we got a Wii U in the back), most likely going to have to fight everyone for my spot.
I love how gorgeous this games look even with the 30 fps drop, love the CPU boost in competence, love / hate the item tweaks, and meh at the battle mode and char roster.

Anybody feel the star is underpowered? I've plowed through people only to meerly have them bounce off me. Also it doesn't seem to help you catch up to anybody unless your short cutting.

Boomerang seems to also be a pretty weak weapon. Rarely do I get it and it flies straight so hills and valleys are basically useless to use it on.

Lastly I said this before but Bloober at times is deadly on this game. Way more then any previous. I actually like it now since before it NEVER bothered me.

I understand though they may have wanted to balance the first weapon a bit.

The star has definitely been nerfed. It doesn't go nearly as fast. It saddens me because it really didn't need the nerf, they could have just made it rarer if they wanted to balance it.

The music in this game is really top notch btw! Dolphin Shoals is outstanding. That saxophone goes so hard. It gets me really pumped up. I don't think I truly understood the term ear sex until I raced that final lap. So amazing.

because it takes a crazy amount to unlock the solid gold wheels?

I don't like how it "auto-aims". I've missed countless times because it follows the road instead of going straight like I want it to.

Green shells don't do that, why does the boomerang?

I've almost given up on getting 3 star ranks in the 150cc Star Cup and Mirror Mode Star/Special Cups. The AI is brutal! Not to mention Dolphin Shoals is such a pain to get 1st on. The few times I was cruising towards an easy victory I got blue shelled at the finish line. So much for item balancing. I've also literally got a Bullet Bill twice in the entire time I've been playing! I tend to get a lot of shells, bananas or pesky coins when in the middle of the pack. Despite my single player woes, I do get strangely addicted to the online play. Hours feel like minutes sometimes!

"Have you played MKDS? You're thinking of Wario Colosseum"

I was confused too. But yeah, I think there was a Wario (or Waluigi) branded stage in Double Dash that also involved big jumps, strings of fire-balls, and even horizontal piranha pipes if I am not misstaken! That one might be better then the original DS stage!

I hope the servers get smoothed out soon, as I'm still having trouble playing online. That is, if it's even the servers at all and not something on my end. I got it to work somewhat consistently by manually setting up my Wii U's internet connection, but it would often stick me in empty groups. I end up leaving soon after since nobody joins. I tried to play again today and I couldn't even get into one race. It also won't let me join friends or even recent players. No other game has had this problem.

Beep.
That is all.

To date, I've never, ever gotten anything except coins, greenshells, and bananas when in 1st place (I've gotten a mushroom and red shell both exactly once). I've never in my entire play time gotten a piranha, bullet bill, lightning bolt, triple shells, triple bananas, triple mushrooms, ba-bomb, or blue shell while in first (though I've gotten all of the above while below 2nd place).

I hate the item balancing in this game so much.

Why o why is ever one moaning about the item balance! So your in first place and only getting coins instead of shells and bananas! If all the first place player got was defensive items then you would still complain if you was second or third that you couldn't overtake cuz first place defened all the time! It works itself fair yet people are to selfish to realise, its all about them and don't seem to understand its got to balance all the way down the field not just look after no1

Almost 100 hours on xenoblade. Loving the game.
