How quickly can u enter a race from the main menu? One of the reasons i stopped playing Mario Kart online in MK7 and possibly also MK Wii was because it took a little time to get into a race, maybe i'm not remembering fully correctly.

Quite quickly. To online it's: main menu-->Global/Regional/Friends/Tournament-->Race/Battle/Custom rules-->Character and kart assembly. Roughly 30-40 seconds depending on the speed of your broadband.

Good to know. One more question for those that want to know: Can kart pieces be unlocked via online? Thanks for the info by the way. Can't wait to get home late Thursday night from work before midnight.

If it's anything like MK7, I'm sure you can, especially if we're talking coin totals.

Ever wondered how many different possible combinations of drivers, bodies, wheels and gliders there are? If you were like me you may have initially imagined many thousands of combinations. After all there are 30 drivers, 26 bodies, 18 tires and 11 gliders. So technically that would make 154,440 combinations.

But if you look at the statistics (eliminating drivers and parts that are only aesthetically different), you actually only have 7 different drivers, 6 bodies, 7 tires and 2 gliders. That makes 588 combinations that are truly different in the way that they handle. And, in fact, that number is probably even lower since I didn't take into account the possibility that some of those combinations might create identical vehicles stats-wise. Still, though, that's a lot of combos to experiment with.

How certain can we be about this? For the longest time, I thought there were effectively three characters in Mario Kart Wii, then I found out that each character alters the stats of their vehicles in a unique way. Can we be sure, yet, that this isn't the case with MK8?

Well I'm just going off the current information. I don't have the game yet so I'm trusting the numbers from the source I listed. I could be wrong but my guess is that all characters in each of the 7 weight classes will handle exactly the same. Though Nintendo could always give us more options in the future with DLC.

Nintendo World Report's (really bad) review confirmed you can unlock things you could in single-player in multiplayer Grand Prix. I assume this includes characters.

Last I checked there was no bad reviews then alone really bad. Plus I have no problem with this. All it means is I don't have to play single player to unlock stuff.

To all the people that preordered via Amazon, have you had any confirmation yet that your order has been dispatched or being prepared to be dispatched? I haven't had any updates yet and I'm starting to get a bit worried since I have a friend coming around on release day to play the game. When I preordered Pokemon X I didn't get it until the Monday after release and I'm a bit concerned it'll happen again. Hopefully I'll get an email tomorrow...

According to a French review, it seems like that achieving gold on 150cc will overwrite said cup on 50cc and 100cc. With Mirror Mode added to your playthrough, you should take no longer than 4 to 6 hours to complete Grand Prix if you're skilled enough. Hooray, I won't have go through the boring 50cc and 100cc classes!

I think I will play all cc anyway.
Good way to get used to the new controls and tracks step by step. (Didn't watch much actual gameplay)
After that, directly online!

Can't wait. >_<

@DestinyMan: Maybe I should've been a bit clearer. The first three speed classes are available right away. However, if you do get a trophy on 150cc, it'll be marked in 50cc and 100cc as well. Heck, you should end up unlocking every character if you do both 150cc and Mirror Mode.

Though if you want to unlock all the character stamps it would make sense to play all of the cc cups since there are 30 characters and 32 cups if you do them all.

It's worth doing all the cups from 50cc to Mirror Mode. Here's a guide I made long ago indicating why:

One more thing, a little strategy for those completionists.

If you wan't to unlock everything as fast as possible, including stamps:

  • Complete each Grand Prix with a different character each time for all modes / cc's / difficulty, (Mirror Mode as well).
  • Try to get a 3-Star Rank on each Cup.

Guaranteed to unlock all stamps for each character since 8 Cups for each 4 modes equals 32 in total, thus unlocking every stamp for each character. Character maximum is 31 (all Mario characters + your Mii)

  • Make sure that you have 10 coins in each & every race during the Grand Prix since you'll unlock parts faster.
  • After a Grand Prix Cup is over, head down to Time Trials, complete 1 track with at least 10 coins while also beating the ghost, then go back to do another Grand Prix. Make sure you do this after every Grand Prix. It's not required anymore once you beat all the ghosts, but doing it anyways grants you 10 coins.

You'll unlock Stamps by beating the Time Trials ghost

If you do this strategy from the beginning (and if you do this in one sitting, kudos to you), you should unlock everything pretty quickly.

Lastly, if you still need more coins, I recommend doing more Time Time Trials, or if you're feeling lucky about getting many coins, try VS, or Online races.

@Rosalina

Can you explain why you recommend doing a time trial after every grand prix? Would that be any different than doing all of the grands prix at once and then doing all of the time trials at once?
