Although to be fair, there is one interesting thing that might make Mario appear to be in decline. When was the last major new Mario character introduced, outside of an RPG? The next Wario or Bowser or Koopalings or Petey Piranha or E Gadd or whatever else?
It goes well beyond that, and I don't think introducing a new character really helps that much (also, the Sprixies kind of are new characters, but they're nothing more than a glorified plot device, so it's not like they really add much). It's that they've been recycling almost everything lately. Same gameplay, same settings, same level ideas, same bosses, same non-storyline storyline, etc. There isn't a whole lot of originality going on lately, the series has become very derivative lately.
You may consider opening your own blog so that you may voice your thoughts in a space you can control and avoid being hassled by users tired of seeing the same general things posted over and over.
