In the manual it says you need Miiverse to upload courses, so I don't think you can share courses when you're banned. I do think you should be able to play other people's courses.

I'm a casual miiverse user, the rules are not as bad as most make them sound... You just need to avoid being offensive, or using the site as your own personal dating club/chat room.

So I'm guessing that the final answer is that the level sharing feature is unavailable to console banned users.
It's one thing to lock a social network, it's another thing to make a game completely worthless just because you did something bad.

@DiscoGentleman: I hope that's the case with the level code sharing thing. I would be content with starting my levels on other websites.
And I don't really think I'm blaming anyone, I just don't think that Nintendo should lock down specific features in games just because you're permanently banned from a social network.

@Ketchupcat: I know, it stinks. I'm probably not going to be able to get a New 3DS for a long time, so I'm probably never going to go on Miiverse again.

Look at it this way, if you weren't able to follow the T&C for Miiverse, why should they expect you to follow the T&C of Mario Maker?

While exceptionally ignorant, there's no reason they should've banned you for that. Jap is about as natural an abbreviation as Jew is, it's not necessarily intended to be racist (unless there's a context issue I'm not aware about). They should've left you off with a warning, not a console ban. But being Miiverse, I can't say I'm too surprised.

The levels are just mapped to the Miiverse feed. Levels are marked as "In-game" on Miiverse.

The context is extremely racist WWII-era propaganda in the United States. It wasn't much different from Nazi propaganda about the Jews. The sentiment was so strong and widespread that it was even intentionally directed at children. Superman comics taught kids that they could "slap a Jap" by purchasing war bonds. And notable artists like Dr. Seuss just couldn't get enough of that sweet, sweet racism.

I remember a lot of them were deleted for advocating against the ways of some Miiverse users, another one was deleted because I posted a picture of Link, and some others were deleted because of stupid mistakes on my part.

Read: harassing other users, uploading obscene or otherwise inappropriate images, and repeatedly instigating my own bans.

About the “JAP” thing, I'm pretty sure he just meant it like the abbreviation “JP.” Like, “I prefer the JP version, Bare Knuckle III, to the NA version, Streets of Rage 3.” That sort of thing.

@jariw: I've got multiple posts deleted for saying Jap... at least 3. I was referring to the Japanese version of Sonic CD as "Sonic CD (JAP)". I did this many times and I got a ton of posts deleted.

Alright, final final line, I don't think I can play Mario Maker. Plain and simple.

People have been saying you don't need miiverse to play. Only to have your levels featured on it.

@Kirby_Fan_DL3: Why not confirm by calling Nintendo? They might know better than people speculating that don't actually have cosnole bans.

I am pretty sure the only thing you wouldn't be able to do with out miiverse is to comment. You can still play games online right? It is just miiverse that doesn't work. You should still be able to upload and download levels with out miiverse.

But as for what you said on miiverse, I guess it just depends on where you are. I'm in the bible belt, cornbread USA and even here I'd be genuinely shocked to hear someone say that particular abbreviation out loud or on some sort of social media. As in, it is considered to be as racist as any other ethnic slur is.
