Topic: Having fun is all that matters.

So these past two weeks have been really big for the industry as a whole, not only being the usual holiday season, but we have two big hardware announcements and some Major software, On the Big N's side of the fence their trying to carve out a niche for the Wii U with a good chuck of family friendly Party games and a great looking 3D Mario game, Sony has had a strong opening with the PS4 despite worries that the launch software wasn't up to par, and Microsoft is the next kid on the block who has to tread carefully to rebuild trust with gamers. I know its the launch of new Hardware and everything but let's try not to lose our heads in Fanboy wars. I've been seeing a lot of threads asking if the Wii U is powerful enough, or complaining that the other consoles are two iterative.

At end of the day Power, Brands, and being at each other's throats shouldn't matter. What matters is you have fun with your systems of choice and be happy a new generation is upon us. It doesn't matter we should be looking at the Brightside of how great things are and there being games for everyone.

I'm looking at the console launches and seeing lots to like

And than Next year......

It doesn't matter if you bleed Green, Blue, Grey, or what ever PC gamers love all that matter is we have fun.

If only people would think more like you TC...T_T. I always just play for fun (I've owned a system from every company), but it always seems like someone is trying to pull me into a political debate over which system is "best"...Who cares? I'm having FUN...sadly, things will probably only get worse, especially since the smear campaigns/fanboy wars seem to be surprisingly effective. I guess I'll just have to stay off the internet (or at least stay in more positive topics like this).

Now if only people will stop squabbling all over the place, and accept that everyone have their own favourite console, PS4, Wii U, XboxOne, 3DS, PSVita... They all are nice in a way.

So why can't we just hope everybody do really good and nobody drops out of the race?

The Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft don't believe this. By making fans hate other companies, it insures more money will be in each respective companies pocket. If every person who enjoyed video games bought all three consoles, each company would be getting significantly less money from each consumer. The fanboy wars are perpetuated by the companies themselves. Riggie though the PS4 and Xbox One's launch games were "meh", Kevin Butler was... Kevin Butler, and Mircosoft pushes the anti-Japanese sentiment so common in America today.

You do realize this is a common marketing technique employed by all sorts of companies? This doesn't mean they don't rely on fun to sell their products (though Sony did stab at Microsoft a lot for PS4 marketing)

It used to be Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Now we've finally made it to Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U. And I must say - everything sounds the same. I can't say I'm surprised... but I'm disappointed.

Well of course, the entirety of the modern capitalism is manipulation and deceit. Advertising as a whole is selling you product as it is tearing others down. I'm simply stating it's impossible for the gaming community to ever just enjoy their games.

also according to this thread, this is entirely off-topic. Otherwise just go to r/atheism if you want to pretend to be intelligent or unique and leave people's sense of fun alone and be miserable and boring elsewhere.

as for the thread, while there's many stupid things that can and will happen, in the long term I am overall optimistic about the next generation. Downloadable games are replacing the old mid-tier titles, indies are still on the rise, Nintendo's learned as much 2 years than they arguably have in the past 2 console cycles, Sony has a clue, and Microsoft will either get a clue (some more) or crash and burn. And all is well. I guess?

That being said, at this point I would suggest people who have any respect for creativity and fun should be extremely careful about certain AAA gaming companies. Might be for the best to not trust that sequel to that actually interesting EA new IP, as an example. But even Mass effect 3 was a fun game despite some writing issues, so it's ok. Kinda.

Honestly I dont understand fanboys at all. I mean I understand that a person has their preferences but why do they try and force their preferences on others? Are they messed up in the head or something?

I have always been a multi console gamer even back in the SNES/Genesis era. I think I was the only kid at that time that had both systems. Alot of my friends at the time were all caught up in the 16 bit wars and only had Nintendos or only had Sega's. They would ask me well which did i like better my answer would be neither. I like Mario and Sonice thats why I have both. I want to play Mario games I have a Nintendo I want to play Sonic games I have a Genesis. Thats the way I am today.

I know that ever game is not going to just come to one system so I have two (or more) that's the way it should be. Shouldn't have to decide which one is better.

A mix of actually, not even joking, being messed up in the head combined with desperation to justify sometimes questionable purchases I assume.

Granted, I consider myself part of the problem as I actually care what they think sometimes, which is a dumb idea.

my general philosophy I guess is to be realistic. Cynicism is not realism, for the record. Basically, being realistic is looking at Nintendo as a flawed gaming company instead of as the best or worst thing EVER or whatever.

but being a fanboy is dumb. And it has infuriated me this year since I've had to BE that fanboy to go against increasingly dumb criticism against Nintendo (others too, but especially Nintendo) that doesn't understand how...reality works. Basically, this has been a good example of how dumb and fun can be polar opposites of each other. I might never bother to discuss anything in TEH CONSOEL WARS11!! ever again and it would probably be for the best. I genuinely want these fanboys to go away. They are not fun. They are bad for the community and need to vanish from the internet, if not society as a whole.

and with that, I am not discussing this to any serious degree again. Now if you excuse me, I'm going back to Wii U's savior aka Ubisoft titles.

I wish more people could just be gamers and not have all this brand loyalty. Of course that will never happen because companies need to make money and people are stupid, but it would be nice if everyone could just enjoy games instead of fighting imaginary wars.

Hell I'd say Mass Effect 3 is a really great game but its bogged down by its own Ambition, as well as the fact that the Last five minutes pre DLC is probably the most Lazy shame inducing plot telling I've ever seen. WIth that said its still pretty fun especially the multiplayer which I thought would be tacked on. It looks like the Dragon AGe team has learned from this since all three games have different protags and all deals with different parts of the same world.

Plus this art style is rad mix of the first two games more European with a bit of stylized Zelda/Fable look to it.

I would play games from other consoles if everything other than Nintendo handhelds were not so expensive - that and the fact that Nintendo systems have all the fun, colorful, lighthearted games I love so much. I enjoy "mature" games just as much sometimes, too - don't get me wrong - but there's plenty for me to play on my 3DS; I don't really need any other system (other than PC, of course. But I don't even do as much gaming on that as I used to). And I don't hate or even dislike people who'd rather play Xbox or Playstation or whatever, we all have different interests, and that's OK. I wish everyone could just leave it at that instead of deciding that whatever they happen to like is better than everything else...
