I'll be more excited when they get third parties on board. They should be able to do that for third party games if not their consoles, I hope.

@skywake I was talking specifically about the Wii U and since discounts don't carry over from Wii U to 3DS, I see no reason why Nintendo would give 3DS ambassadors a discount on GBA games on the Wii U. If GBA games are released on the 3DS VC then I don't think ambassadors should have to pay to upgrade it. If they did offer discounts for Wii U VC games you already own on 3DS VC, and vice versa, then I think 3DS ambassadors should get them on Wii U for a discounted price.
@SparkOfSpirit Well, Konami is putting games on Wii U VC so at least we'll get the GBA Castlevania games. Of course, the more third parties, the better.
@Ryno: Haha I remember getting one of those to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with a friend of mine. I thought it was a neat idea that we each had our own screen to look at while playing the game on the Gamecube.

I hope 3DS Ambassadors can get discounts on GBA games that are already on their 3DS.
But, you didn't buy those GBA games. Why should you get a discount for something you put no money into?
Yeah I did pay for them, in the extra $80 wasted on the system before the imminent price drop Nintendo never told me about. Don't say I didn't put money into them.

You payed the asking price for the 3DS. You didn't pay for those games. Those games were a gift from Nintendo.

They are a waste of money. I can play my beloved GBA games on the screen with the Game Boy Player on my GameCube. Besides, we have a terrible lineup already.
You mean: a waste of money for you. For some who don't have immediate access to a GBA and/or a lot of its game library, this is awesome!

To all the whining about "why not gba on 3ds" DEAL WITH IT! And buy a Wii U while you're at it.
A large majority of people would rather have GBA game emulation on the 3DS than the Wii U, even people who own a Wii U. People letting this be said shouldn't really be annoying you - people can criticise Nintendo freely here. Also, buying a Wii U for GBA games? Hah. I own a Wii U and my recommendation is still for people to not buy it.
A: The Virtual Console would quickly be forgotten if there's not a steady stream of interesting releases to keep people coming back.
B: They'd lose out on sales with too ambitious of a schedule. Giving something like Yoshi's Cookie its day in the sun by giving it a week or two to itself will sell far more units than if it appeared with a half dozen other titles like Link to the Past.
A. 1 game a week maximum, as someone else has already stated, is not a 'steady stream'. 3 games a week would be steady enough for people to find something they like.
B. There's a middle ground between 1 game a week and half a dozen titles. The amount of people who would buy a game like Yoshi's Cookie solely because nothing else is available is probably close to nothing anyway. Your logic basically means they're releasing one a week so that people who want something have to be buying the terribly unpopular games. Even if that did get them a little bit more money, that's not a system I'll be supporting.
They have several years of Virtual Console support left ahead of them for these two platforms. If they released all their content as rapidly as the average Tom, Dick, and Harry around NintendoLife wishes they would, new 1st party additions to both platforms would already be finished.
The Wii VC has over 400 games on it. If they release these same games on the Wii U at 3 games a week, a decent selection for people to choose from, then they would be releasing VC titles for the next two and a half years. I think that's a speed more people would get on board with. After two and a half years? There are more VC titles still to release, and even if there weren't, they'd have over 400 games for people to choose from - the amount of people who'd still be buying new games by that time would be terribly low.
Such a long post. But I guess this is what happens when we get fanboys defending the most ridiculous of practices

Not to mention that on the Wii U they have the potential for extra consoles on the VC service. At the very least it's going to get GBA and DS and for those we're talking 100s each even if they're selecting a small fraction of the library. Then there's the fact that the extra power of the Wii U allows them to potentially offer a VC for more recent consoles like Gamecube and Dreamcast.
Then there's the fact that at this stage in the Wii VC's life we were getting better VC titles even though the VC was already massive. Just randomly picking a week for comparison, the EU VC for Jan 23 2014 on Wii U/3DS vs Jan 18 2008 on the Wii VC.
Jan 18 2008 the Wii VC got:
Riot Zone (TurboGrafx)
1080° Snowboarding (N64)
Jan 23 2014 the Wii U VC got:
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES)
Jan 23 2014 the 3DS VC got:
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (NES)
and at that stage, which was the same stage in the Wii's life as the Wii U is in, the Wii VC was massive compared to both the 3DS and Wii U VCs. Probably combined.
How much do you think GBA games will cost given that NES games are priced at $5, GBC games are $5-6, and SNES games are $8?
What would be a reasonable price in your opinion?
The same price as SNES games would make sense seeing as the GBA was essentially a portable SNES (Yoshis Island, Link to the Past etc.). What I think would be a reasonable price would as always, differ from the pricing model they have for VC games.
I agree, I think $8 would be the sweet spot ($6 would be even better but I should probably lower my expectations).
And for those wondering why they are releasing GBA and DS games on the Wii U virtual console and only GBC/NES on the 3ds virtual console, it's pretty simple from a business standpoint.
Two reasons:
1. 3DS doesn't need better VC games to sell systems. It already has a large install base. Releasing GBA on 3DS isn't going to have nearly the same effect that releasing them exclusively for Wii U will have. Specifically I'm referring to the effect of garnering console interest, NOT virtual console sales (as we all know that GBA games would sell way more copies on the 3ds because of the massive install base). The Wii U needs all the help it can get. Now nobody is going to buy a Wii U to play GBA games, but having them exclusively on the system will help along with 1st party software, etc.
2. Excluding GBA from the 3DS forces people to buy GBC and NES games that they probably wouldn't have ever considered otherwise. If you had $10 in your account to spend, would you rather buy Link's Awakening on GBC or A Link to the Past on GBA VC? Pretty simple answer (for most people), but by excluding GBA from 3DS VC Nintendo is giving you only one option, thus ensuring that their GBC games get some love.
A more simpler way of looking at it: They aren't releasing GBA on 3DS because that would water down the effect of the current catalog of GBC and NES games they are trying to sell on the system. GBA games would cannibalize sales for these games.
That's what makes me crazy about the VC - all of these titles paid for themselves a million years ago, so cannibalising of sales shouldn't be an issue and some of these games, frankly shouldn't be released. I mean the only reason we had inferior ports of Mario Bros. and the Donkey Kong games in the first place was because of hardware limitations that no longer exist, so why even bother with the NES versions - just release the arcade originals at the same time and if anyone wants the NES versions for nostalgia reasons it's a little gravy.
The pace of releases is starting to get a bit annoying I admit: NES hockey this week - that's it?
Doesn't matter if I'm a 3DS Ambassador, I'll buy Metroid Fusion and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity when they release on the Wii U virtual console in order to show support for the future of the franchises.
There are actually quite a lot of GBA games I would want to see:
The Starfy games, since they never hit Europe
The Castlevania games
The Sonic games
The Megaman games
The first Warioware
Mario pinball land
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Mother 3 of course!
Maybe Chu Chu rocket
And probably some others!
As for DS games I would like:
Starfy
The first Megaman ZX, since I have the second one
The Castlevania games
And maybe some others!
If the price is right, they may have a good customer in me!
Technically, the GBA might be a more powerful machine than SNES (it is 32-bit ARM), but they would be mad to charge more than €8 for them.
Games I would buy on GBA VC:
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Golden Sun 1&2
Castlevanias, all of them
Sonic Advance 1,2 and 3
and of course Mother 3 and F-Zero Climax! The thing I love the most about Virtual Console is the chance to finally be able to play some Japan-exclusive games.
Klonoa: Empire Of Dreams
Chu Chu Rocket!
Double Dragon Advance
Sigma Star Saga
Ninja Five-O
Gunstar Super Heroes
Mega Man Zero 3
Lady Sia
Sonic Advance 1
Donkey Kong Country 3 - The GBA version of this is my favorite.
The GBA is still my favorite portable system.
