The only really top notch game I have played on the Wii U so far is Sonic Lost World (3D World / NSMBU / Mario Kart 8 are not that good I don't think).
.
Well... you are wrong, those are great games
unrandomsam just have different taste. To me, NSMBU isn't the best game I've played and neither was Sonic Lost World, but 3DWorld and MK8 were both fantastic. But that's my taste.
I don't understand how one can think that Sonic Lost World is better than 3DWorld, on production qualities alone. Granted I'm going by the demo only of Sonic Lost World, but still... it's a night and day. Technically, 3DWorld kills that game, and any 3D platformer except the Galaxies.
I have both, played them to completion, and I agree with you. I guess @unrandomsam cares more about how hard (or even frustrating) a game is.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
MK8 plus the free game you get alone makes the purchase worthwhile. You will easily put 100 plus hours on those two alone, if not more by the end of the summer- and it's not out of the question that you get 300 hours by the end of the year with ease. Throw in Donkey Kong, Mario 3d plus several other pretty good ports and you will be fine.

I know, everyone has different tastes
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Dude I don't get it... You said you are already enjoying playing it, why care about the reviews then? I'll say go for it, since you can get another 1 retail game for free
PS: I skipped 2 Nintendo console generations and got the Wii U. Go figure

I did the exact same. Definitely regret it tho.
You really shouldn't have skipped 2 generations

I skipped N64 and gamecube and GBA but Wii VC and BC and DSL BC let me go back and enjoy many of the games I missed out on while I was only playing PS1 and PS2

Yeah totally regretted it.
At least the Wii U can play Wii games, so you can catch up on 1 generation

@DefHalan Well I regretted skipping the GC but not the Wii. Until this day I still hate the Wii. I know there are quality games on it but the whole atmosphere and feel of the console just throws me off. The Wii U was a god send.

I love the Wii but I'll be the first to admit that it was not marketed for the games I enjoyed on it, usually.
The biggest complaint you will see is that there aren't enogh games. But keep in mind that the games it has are of extremely high quality, so you will spend more time on them.
Also, my favorite is Super Mario 3D World, but Mario Kart is definitely a close second@

Yeah, good that Wii U has backwards compatibility. I'll be able to enjoy the best of 2 worlds!

Hello, uhhh I'm not on the forums much, so hello! I am feeling unsure about buying a Wii U.
I want to get the Mario Kart 8 bundle, because it has a Wii Wheel and A wii remote plus and all that jazz.
I just dont want to regret my purchase. Many reviews worry me, but I have 2 friends who have Wii Us and its an amazing expericence playing it! I want to go all out with a system this gen (like an external hard drive and such) and Nintendo has always had a space in my heart.
So, can somebody help me? I want to purchase a Wii U but I really dont want to regret my purchase and have hardly any good games to play.
The bolded part is the deciding factor. If you've already played some games and really enjoyed it, then nothing else matters. Personal experience > reviews, always.
It's had a lot of bad PR, it had a really slow launch year (which doesn't seem too bad in comparison to the two newer competitor's consoles) and some deserved criticism.
Ultimately though, it's a great system if you like Nintendo games, franchises, and also a quickly growing pool of interesting indies and digital only releases.
Check out the games, check out some reviews of the games, and then grab up the MK8 bundle!
I don't see how the reviews could scare you. The game's sitting at 88% on Metacritic and it's about the third best received game critically over the last three months. The only other new and notable game that's above it is Dark Souls 2 so it's hardly a game I'd worry about. Critically it has been better received than both Titanfall and Watch Dogs and I wouldn't call either of those bad games.
As far as the Wii U itself goes well it isn't a third party box and the release of software upto this point has been slow. But if you're buying it now not only can you get the cool bundle plus a free game but you have quite a decent library. There's 3D World, Rayman Legends, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and New SMB U. Then there are the indie games like Child of Light, Bit Trip Runner 2, NES Remix and so on. Plus stuff out this year like Smash Bros, Bayonetta and X.
I don't see what the concern is. If you like the sound of the above the "Wii U problems" shouldn't be a concern at all
If you are only getting one system and care about third party games then the Wii U is a bad choice, if you don't care about third party and want to play only Nintendo games then its ok
1) It really is an underrated console with a lot of potential. I like it so much more than the non-HD wii-mote reliant original Wii. Aside from the triggers, I quite like the Wii U Pro Controllers (second to the Xbox One controllers) and aside from that annoying "blow into the mic" thing that games sometimes push, the Wii U Gamepad is pretty damn cool - I personally prefer it far more than the overly gimmicky unreliable and overrated Kinect.
2) I got it in a good deal a year ago for my birthday because Big W was selling the Wii U 32gb black model $100 or so cheaper making it roughly around the price of the white model (so a good deal at the right time), plus the Pro controllers were also on special.
3) I always intended to get it as a side console similar to how I did with the Wii (3 years after it's initial release and in a good deal). Nintendo are always dependable with their exclusives and unlike the other 2 (where I'd chosen 360), i actually cared enough to want to get those numerous exclusives.
Personally I don't think it's fair that a lot of game developers and gamers in general compare the Wii U to other new-gen consoles like the Xbox One or PS4. I think the Wii U should and probably was intended more as a console on its own just like the Wii turned out to be. It has a lot of cool untapped potential and doesn't need the overrated power that the other 2 consoles have. It has more than enough power for games like Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 (both look as I awesome as I'd want) and SHOULD ideally have more fun interesting games than the borderline interactive movie overly scripted games that Xbox One and PS4 get. Wii U should be (and has the potential) to be the console that still offers something for gamers looking (first and foremost) for games.
Xbox One and PS4 are in direct competition, Wii U doesn't need to be. Compared with those other 2 consoles the Wii U has caught and taken up most of my attention despite there being an Xbox One in this house and ironically (unlike the original Wii in general and compared with its "competition") the Wii U has felt like the best "gaming" console - but then i'm still quite old school (as evidenced by my above comment on "interactive movie" games). I only wish there was more variety and that releases were more frequent with the Virtual Console - quite annoying for that matter that some weeks we get filler garbage like the NES sports titles IMO.
So yeah, I think it's worth taking the plunge into buying a Wii U. It's just unfortunate that we've currently got this stalemate where some companies like EA judge the consoles potential based on poor sales of their crappy half-arsed ports and pass the console over, and many gamers passing the console over also as a result (or just simply underestimating it based on reputation) - meaning then that devs feel more justified passing it over.
I think it depends on what games you like and how quickly you burn out on them. Mario Kart 8 is massive fun and if you've got friends playing with you I'd say that would make it worth the purchase alone. Normally I ignore these posts because this is all subjective stuff. You're asking a forum dedicated to the machine so duh, most people will tell you to buy it - what would you expect? You say you have fun playing at friend's houses so surely that would answer it for you?
To be more serious this isn't like buying a Wonderswan or some other niche console that might fizzle out after some initial releases. This is a Nintendo system and Nintendo will support it for years to come because they have a long-term commitment to their hardware platforms. I can tell you that I have a large library of software and it doesn't matter to me what game journalists ignore it when I fire it up and I'm playing a fun game, whether it's Super Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong for the NES. If they stopped making games for it tomorrow I'd still be enjoying it for many years to come.
