Retro is the savior of dead Nintendo franchises. People want to see Retro bring something old back to life, so seeing a sequel to DKCR is probably disappointing people for that reason. But, considering Retro made three Metroid Prime games before moving on to something else, it shouldn't be all that surprising. And another disappointing fact is how long it takes for Retro to make games. The Wii got MP3 towards the end of the Wii's life and DKCR towards the end. This implies that we likely won't get another Retro title until towards the end of the Wii U's life.
This pretty much sums it up. It isn't the fact of a DKC sequel that's got everyone in a fuss, it's who is making it. But as mentioned Retro did do three Metroids in a row, so it still surprises me a little as to why it's this particular sequel that people rip on.
I think the timing has more of why people are so frustrated. After all those rumors about what Retro was doing, everyone was all hyped up. The Wii U kinda needs to get a killer app if it wants to sell better. Everyone knows Retro Studios is more than capable of delivering. Not to mention all those Star Fox and Metriod cross over non sense. This game seems really interesting but the timing to annouce this game could not have come at a worser time.
Although I'm sure this will be a great game, I'm still salty about the fact that Retro Studios even went with the decision to make this game instead of giving us Metroid, F-Zero, or Starfox.

I still can't help but be disappointed that this was Retro's next 'big' project.
The good news is you won't be disappointed in Retro's next big project after TF.
which is?
"You'll see! Oh yes, you will see..." (Anyone who gets that reference is awesome).
Anyway, I like to think of Retro working on TF instead of certain games that are constantly asked for is for them to get used to the Wii U's hardware and what they can do with it. That way when Retro does get to work on a Starfox, F-Zero, Metroid, whatever, it will turn out all the more amazing.
