Topic: Does anyone feel Iwata might actually resign?

So far the Wii U sales numbers have been abysmal to say the least. Iwata did say that he would resign from his CEO spot in the company if he did not meet his expectations of 100 billion yen by the end of the fiscal year. His resignation seems more and more likely as time passes on and to be quite honest I wouldn`t mind him leaving. He clearly doesn`t seem to have an idea about the western market, online market, etc. and now the Wii U is stuck in a rut with no 3rd party support. So my question is, do you see him resigning by the end of the year and if so who would replace him?

I don't know if he will, but I sort of hope he does.

No. Iwata brought the DS and Wii and they both made shiploads of money for Nintendo (and still do!). 3DS is picking up pace very nicely and the Wii U will be in much better shape in about a year from now. So he is actually a very succesfull CEO

I disagree. Iwata is a like able CEO but recently he seems completely oblivious to the western market and constantly promises increased support or he`ll learn from mistakes like the 3DS launch yet he turns around and does the same thing for the Wii U.

The business world is about what you have done for me lately. The 3DS probably still isn't where shareholders want it to be (unrealistic expectations). Your also assuming the Wii U will pcik up in sales and even if it does shareholders have a different mindset than us.

For them the Wii U being gamecube levels in its life will be considered a failure following the Wii

I just hope the new CEO retains the same charm as Nintendo does(Their games exclusive to their platform,no rushing broken games, etc.) but understands the western and online markets well.

People actually want to pull the rug out from under him; that's pretty harsh guys!

What makes sense for the bottom line might not equate to a better environment for gamers.
Likewise a new CEO could be worse or not change things at all.

Calling for his resignation seems like the ultimate act of revenge by disgruntled fans.

If the Wii U doesn't start doing well next year or so, I suspect he will resign (or be forced out the company). I don't want him to, he's a decent CEO and paying dearly for just one mistake seems kind of harsh, but I suspect he might not be long at Nintendo at the current rate.

I don't see why he'd do that. He has done an amazing job with the 3DS in Japan, Japan is pretty much THE reason 3DS is doing as well as it is. If he can do the same with the WiiU, they're going to be fine.

Yeah i'm not a big fan of some of the things that Iwata has been doing but I think this holiday season will be the big deciding factor on if he's gone. The current leadership is looking to pull the 3DS gamble. i'm thinking a few of the games shown this E3 are going to be ready for the fall including Wonderful 101 and Mario Kart U. If this a good strategy or not remains to be seen.

Also am I the only one who thinks Mario Kart won't have as much of an impact as it usually does this year.

James Newton for CEO 2013~
Just kidding.
But I feel Iwata has no reason to do so.

You guys are crazy. If he resigns, then so be it, but we need to at least appreciate and support him while he is CEO.
If we looked at any company, they all have their ups and downs. Bringing and supporting 2 new consoles within the first couple years or so is hard work. I think you guys are feeling entitled to Nintendo stuff.
Anyone that understands the 3DS situation and the appeal the Wii U knows that things are doing fine. We all want better, but I don't think a new CEO would really change that.
He isn't the only one making the decisions you know.
We could say the same thing about the Sony gaming rep, Apple's CEO, Bill Gates, or really anyone in a higher spot. EVEN THE FREAKING PRESIDENT of the U.S.
So in otherwords, people wanting Iwata to step down don't know jack. Nintendo will change their leadership when they see fit.
Lastly, slow console launches are normal for the most part. Why is this still a complaint when it never made sense in the first place?

Not being the best president doesn't make him the worst, or even bad for that matter. Why people think otherwise is beyond me, especially after his successes prior to the Wii U and all the money gained under his leadership. It's almost like people forgot the 3DS's unfortunate launch, which took some months before it started flying off the shelves. The Wii U's 5 months of availability is not enough to judge a CEO's ability at being a CEO.

I doubt they hit that goal.
I really like Iwata but its not like Nintendo hasn't made some really avoidable missteps or couldn't use some shake ups.
Let's just hope he stays with the company if he does resign. I'd like to see him continue to do Nintendo Directs

Four more months until Bayonetta 2.
