So with Dragon Quest coming to NX, it seems likely the console will drop within two-and-a-half years. But isn't DQ typically on Nintendo handhelds? And maybe the reason the NX isn't competing with the PS4 in raw power is because it's competing with the PSVita, instead. Just some thoughts.

Dragon Quest is mainly on consoles. DQ1-4 were on the NES, 5-6 on the SNES, 7 on the PS, 8 on the PS2, 9 on the DS and 10 on the Wii. They tend to get ported to handhelds years later. 1-3 on the GBC, 4-6 on the DS, 7-8 on the 3DS.

Yep. E3 alone indicates this. It sucks and I love the syatwm but reality is Wii U is simply not going to last as long as we want.

@WebHead: Wasn't it stated about ten billion times that the E3 event this year was focusing on 2015-early 2016 releases? Like, even before the actual event months earlier? Besides, this E3 was filler all round for Nintendo consoles. Paper Jam's cool and everything but that and Zelda Triforce Heroes are made reusing engines and assets for whipping out a couple of quick "main line" games to suport with the filler.
Should clarify I'm not denying the system's possible demise, but I'm trying to balance out the argument with some truthful hope y'know?

First impressions and hands-on previews of Triforce Heroes indicate that it's actually a very well-designed game with solid puzzles and dungeons. It's not quickly thrown together.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Didn't claim it was trash or thrown together, just stating it was quickly made as a filler game and there's nothing wrong with that.
Its like Spirit Tracks where its still a good game that is its own thing, but it reuses a lot from Phantom Hourglass to reduce development time.

@Peach64: Thanks for the clear up, but then these being remakes of 9 and 10 would suggest a handheld by that pattern, no?

Wait, huh? XI is an original game, not a remake of IX. And X on NX would be a port, not a remake.

I said remake and meant port. I know it's a port. And I thought it was IX instead of XI. Must've been a tupo when I saw that.

EDIT: Yeah. Blast said IX in his thread in the NX forum. That's why Ithought it was 9.

In that case, my point changes a fair bit. This tells us next to nothingin terms of what the NX is. I'd say a new game means it's probably a console except a recent one debuted on a handheld meaning it could be either one.

Well, due to failure of lauch titles and 3rd party, (And a death of a legend.)
It was going happen no matter. You can't keep beating the dead horse. Just let the Wii U die. It was born as a failure, and die as a failure.

Honestly I don't see the reasons to replace Wii U. The machine seems powerful enough for the kinds of games Nintendo wants to make. It may not be powerful enough for some of the western games that push the envelope. Is it not powerful enough for the Zelda game they want to make? My favorite Wii U games are not anything that I look at and think the graphics would be so much better on a more powerful machine.

The only reason to release a more powerful home console at this point is if they want to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft and go after multi platform releases. I don't think that is a winning strategy either.

I think the best thing they can do is cut the price on the Wii U, do it along side Super Mario Maker bundles. Release some more HD remasters and new true 3D mario.

Agree 100%. Dropping the Wii U and moving to another home console make no sense whatsoever. Unless Nintendo has a new innovative something that they feel will be a killer app and that needs new hardware, it simply doesn't make sense, and smells like what Sega did before its demise. A dumb move. Wii U with the recent success of Splatoon and the amiibo shows there's a lot of life in it, and it's selling pretty well in Japan considering the bulk of sales go to 3DS of course. It has room for improvement in the U.S. and Europe, and especially UK, is a lost cause, but a new home console will just be worse.

@dumedum: In some ways, I kind of agree. I agree in terms of, Nintendo BETTER know what they're doing with the NX. I hope to heaven that they've really committed themselves to reading the market, listening to feedback on the Wii U, and moving forward with a strong plan and lots of preparation. No more excuses of, "Well, we're new to HD games, so everything took longer than we thought." No more begrudging online system. Not another marketing absence like we had with the Wii U.

This is a HUGE chance. People are excited about the NX. People who are diehard PS/Xbox gamers for the past two generations are actually TALKING about this new system with some degree of excitement. Go check it out on some other sites. It's pretty crazy to see, actually. People are willing to give this thing a chance if Nintendo comes out swinging.

I think Nintendo will drop the Wii U for the 'game thought construct,' wherein we 'jack in' to the collective gaming unconscious and lucid dream video games beyond explanation.

But that's more like in 2100, so between now and then, yes, they will drop the Wii U for the NX.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

TuVictus

@rallydefault: My thoughts exactly. If they really want to drop the Wii U, they really better know what the heck they're doing and actually listening to what gamers want instead of "Well we'll just make whatever we want and you'll just have to buy it. Party chat? Proper Messaging? Multi tasking? We'll just ignore those so we can continue being special snowflakes"

@Reznor52:

Not to harp on you or what you did but this mentality baffles me to no degree.

It's like Super Smash Bros. Melee fans. Yes, a new interation came out. No, Melee did not stop existing, you can still play it. It's like Nintendo, if they do stop supporting the Wii U, means it's dead and you should get rid of it. No. God no. Hell loads of people traded in after E3 and honestly I don't see it. Yes, red flags, that may or may not come to fruition, and if they do, those Wii U games didn't just vanish out of existence. You can still play the past 3 years of games.

I don't get why people treat it as the console's life didn't exist. It seriously baffles me.
