Not to harp on you or what you did but this mentality baffles me to no degree.
It's like Super Smash Bros. Melee fans. Yes, a new interation came out. No, Melee did not stop existing, you can still play it. It's like Nintendo, if they do stop supporting the Wii U, means it's dead and you should get rid of it. No. God no. Hell loads of people traded in after E3 and honestly I don't see it. Yes, red flags, that may or may not come to fruition, and if they do, those Wii U games didn't just vanish out of existence. You can still play the past 3 years of games.
I don't get why people treat it as the console's life didn't exist. It seriously baffles me.
To put it simply, Humans want new. We are always looking for something different. We didn't invent the wheel and say good enough. A lot of people have the 1 and done mentality. They only watch a movie or play a game once, or once it leaves the disc drive it doesn't go back in. We are on this world for a limited time and some people view experiencing the same thing over and over to be boring and a waste of time. It is natural for Humans to value the new over something old.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@whodatninja: yeah that's not happening. It isn't financially viable. They're gearing up for NX. 3DS had a great run and Wii U has great games, but the writing is on the wall for this gen.

@WebHead: I could see Nintendo supporting the Wii U for two more years. I think they need to do something to improve their image before asking people to buy yet another console.

@NightmareEater: In what sense exactly is it a failure? It's making a profit, so I don't see how it's really a failure. You know the competitive aspect of the console market means very little, right? The only things that matter to how well the Wii U did are its own sales, its own output (that is, units manufactured), cost of development, and the profits of the software titles from Nintendo's perspective. Which considering the library, attach rate, and yes, the fact that the Wii U has managed to turn a profit, it's a success. Not a major one, but it's done its job.
@rallydefault: And with how late 2015 and early 2016 is looking, they won't be. As much as I love Star Fox Zero, a lot of people are upset about it. Zelda U will have to both be the Wii U's swan song while also not being the last major hit on the system in order for Nintendo to have a good enough reputation going into new hardware. It is going to be a difficult time for Nintendo and replacing the Wii U in 2016 isn't going to help. Honestly F-Zero or Metroid could be the best game to follow up Zelda while not taking too much attention for a game released between Zelda U and NX but we know that won't happen. just my opinion
nintendo aren't involved in it. it's up to YOU if YOU dump your Wii U for the NX. whatever the NX is.
nintendo are going to keep using the gamepad and the wiimotes and all that into the "next gen". they don't actually look at it in that archaic way like many still do, though. a lot of you don't seem to understand the nintendo difference, how they're not like sony or microsoft just copying what the "video games industry" is doing - now nintendo are the only innovators left, so it's really them on their own creating their own concepts in their own field. yet a lot of you still pretend it's some 3 way competition where 3 companies put out 3 consoles with 3 unique controllers and all of yesterdays boringness to go with it. i think you all need to get with the times as nintendo are!
@martinskrtel37: I don't think they're going to keep any of the Wii stuff. I think the NX will be a new brand for Nintendo, with the Wii era being left behind. And as far as wiping the slate clean when it comes to their image over the last two generations, that would be in their best interest.
@rallydefault: The biggest problem I see with that is that bacwards compatibility with both Wii and Wii U would be impossible. Plus they'd be dropping comtrol options from seven to one or two. Seems like a massive step back to me. Rather than a necessary step forward.
@DefHalan: I agree with what you're saying but it looks like Nintendo's ignoring the past and going ahead anyway. The best outcome to gain a great reputation going into new hardware would be Zelda U coming out in 2016 on Wii U only (so basically a Skyward Sword setup) and 2017 has the NX launch along with a new 3D Mario like 64/Sunshine/Galaxy rather than 3D World as the huge title. Having a Twilight Princess situation or just not releasing on Wii U to me sounds like Nintendo would be following the footsteps of the Saturn to Dreamcast transition which of course ended with SEGA developing games for PC, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox.
@Grumblevolcano: I'm not going to say that, if done your way, the new Zelda would be left "to die," like others might. Because honestly, Nintendo's stuff sells awesomely on the Wii U, even if hardware sales are low. Mario Kart 8 has something like 5+ million sold, which is incredibly respectable and, frankly, not really reached by Sony or Microsoft's first-party stuff on their consoles with install bases much higher.
BUT, by choosing to relegate Zelda ONLY to Wii U, you'd be robbing the NX of a golden launch title in a franchise that has an all-ages appeal with the potential to draw in LOTS of attention from people who haven't even looked at Nintendo for a long time. So, yea, people like us with Wii Us would be happy to get some validation, but really, I'd be equally happy if they do a dual release.
I think it would be a mistake to not leverage Zelda as a launch title for NX. Could you imagine NX launching with new Zelda AND a 3D Mario? Incredible, and with just a few third-party titles mixed in, nobody would be able to criticize that launch lineup.
They should either do a dual release or an NX port within a year of the console's launch. They need a Wii U release to leverage the Wii U's install base and to satisfy existing Wii U owners, but also an NX version to give that console a strong launch title that would encourage people to upgrade.
