Maybe. If Nintendo somehow comes up with a game like Wii Sports or the original Super Mario Bros that somehow revolutionises half the industry and sells the console by the million load, then it technically doesn't need any third party support whatsoever.

If it can't do that though, then it might struggle without EA's support.

Can the people citing doom and gloom if (and that's a huge if especially given the Wii U already has Need for Speed, Mass Effect 3 and the Sports games) EA disappears please do something for me. Walk over to where your games are right now and answer me this. What proportion of your games are published by EA? Would you have still got those various systems if those particular games weren't there?

Yes or no.

Don't get me wrong some of EA's published games are fantastic. They include some of the games that have defined genres and plenty of games that I have poured hours into over the years. When push comes to shove though they have generally been well behind other publishers. On Nintendo platforms and anything that's not a PC especially.

I think you need to ask, will current hardware owners trade in their systems because of EAs apparent abandonment? And will potential hardware customers dismiss the console because EA aren't making any new games for it?

I very much doubt that a large portion of the installed user base will desert Nintendo because of this. And I don't think the gamer that lists EA titles as 'must haves' would buy Nintendo for those games.

So can Nintendo survive without EA? Yes. I don't think Nintendo's market share depends on EA support.

Nintendo is gonna be fine without the support of EA.

Might be time for you to find a better hobby. Nobody should get this stressed out over a video game system.

Is this thread starter serious? Every Nintendo system apart from Virtual Boy has been successful. Nintendo are the one company in the hardware business who have proven they can survive entirely on their own franchises. They managed to make a financially successful system against the mega beast that was the PS2.

I don't know about this. I mean if Frostbite 3 is incompatible with the Wii U. Then what about Unreal Engine 4? What about Call Of Duty Ghost? That is supposedly has a new engine. Yet no news on a Wii U release.

Can't help but wonder cuz I just read an article this afternoon at N4G about "Can the Wii U survive without EA?" & also talking about next gen games will not be coming on the Wii U mainly because the Wii U can't run next gen game engines particularly Frostbite 3 & newer.

Getting games is not determined by if a system can run an engine or not and I don't know where that idea came from.

Publishers put priority on the system they make the most profits on. Always have. Always will.

Most of you seem to get butt hurt when someone ask this question and I'm not sure why you have a personal attachment to a company.

But, my thoughts anyway so don't get your panties in a wad, is that EA is a powerful publisher and developer. EA has a strong sway over many consumers. If they see EA says no games for Wii U that will make them not purchase the Wii U. Just ask Sega about that. Then the Rockstar ordeal to ice the cake that EA has made is not a good thing for Wii U.

Recess, think recess. The gaming community is a lot like recess.

I say Power Rangers are for losers, you disagree, I persuade, and you punch me. I cry and throw a tantrum. The end.

Yes, you're right EA is powerful. So powerful that it's still remains the biggest game publisher in existence. It might not be the friendliest company out there but it can outflanked any competitors except probably Activision. Its influence on small & start up game publishing companies is far reaching. Not having a friendly relationship with it (no matter if it's EA's fault) will only put Nintendo in a lot of trouble. Its ability to do its bidding discretely & still hits hard on the Wii U thru its subentities (like DICE, etc.) makes it so deadly. You don't wanna mess up with EA.

Can Wii U survive without EA?

Yes. Although it will make it more difficult than it already is.

There's a difference between being "butt hurt" and not feverishly nodding at every doomsayer with a rumour

EA is certainly a large publisher, but EA has never had a big place on Nintendo's consoles. The only major publishers that have had success on Nintendo's hardware are Nintendo (obviously), Sega, Capcom, Activision, Namco, and Ubisoft. EA has never done well with Nintendo's hardware (the real reason they are probably not supporting the Wii U), and Nintendo's entire history is proof that it can thrive without EA. I'm not saying that getting EA's support wouldn't be a boon for Nintendo, but EA alone is definitely not at all a vital component to Nintendo's success.

Activision looks like it will be pulling out too. It's blaming the Wii U of any potential lost of sales. EA & Activision - no Battlefield 4 & COD: Ghosts I wonder what's gonna happen next.

The same thing to happen throughout the Wii Life Cycle... we will get some killer Nintendo Titles but this time we will also get some awesome Indie Titles

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yosh

well, wii did become one of the best selling systems in gaming history, without activision and EA, nintendo isn't microsoft, they don't depend on wannabe gamers that only care about violence and graphics

We already got those on smartphones & tablets. We'll get some on Ouya too later on.

Please tell me more about how Toki Tori 2 Mighty Switch Force Hyper Drive Edition, or Little Inferno is on Smartphones, Tablets, and Ouya. There are a lot of Indie Titles on Smartphones, Tablets and Ouya most of them are made for quick cash.
