I feel like there is a need for the revert button to be able to revert as many steps as possible because after all that's one of the pros of digital painting.

But Art Academy is a simulation of real analog painting.

It is about 'real' artwork, yes, but... I was using AA recently, can't remember whether it was on my Wii U or N3DS, but I experienced an issue with unwanted lines appearing on my work. Now I realise this must have been down to me contacting the screen with my hand, so my fault to some extent, but it is pretty awkward working without touching the screen/paper at all.
I didn't notice what I'd done straight away, so even if there was an 'undo' option, unless I could go back multiple steps I couldn't undo the line that had appeared. On one occasion it happened right across the work I'd already done, effectively ruining it. Having to manually undo such things is very annoying.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
