It's a clamshell,
Comes in two sizes,
And has every feature of the current Gamepad.

The new 3ds has landed and it looks darn well compatible!
Even the Start/Select buttons are in the same place!

I expect the new 3ds's firmware updates to be separate from the old 3ds's so this feature could become extremely viable when the Wii U's market starts to get stale. (after Wii U Loz, if I remember Loz SS was the last game I played on Wii, hears hoping it doesn't take as long as SS to develop, but I digress)
Practically, the Ps Vita's only unique selling point (other than GRAFIKS!! and MEINCRAFT!1!!0) is it's strong ability to complement the home system. I personally hope that download-able software unification is on Nintendo's horizon. And with the release of this new 3ds I hope that some form of hardware unification will take place, so that each console 'edifies' the other.

Any thoughts? Predictions? Or cries of "Heresy!!!"?

I would just be pissed... as a owner of 3ds, 3ds xl and WiiU, I don't want to spend other money to have a second gamepad... I think I gave Nintnedo already a lot of my money, and now they come out with this new handeld, with more features, more power and maybe finally the compatibility with WiiU.... after years we are talking about....

Next generation I am gonna wait a long time before buying a Nintendo console.... wait for the presence/absence of third party along the all lifespan, wait for possible intercommunication between home and handheld console, wait for the bestversion of their hardware...

PS: PS Vita was released way before Ps4, and it was already designed to give remote play features combined with the new (and future) home console.... they didn't release a new, more cool Vita after releasing ps4.... I thinks Sony behaved more seriously and customer friendly than Nintendo, this time... I feel Nintendo is just trying to miling all the money it can from us.. al the time...

Nope, the resolution isn't anywhere close to that of the Wii U's gamepad and the aspect ratio isn't even the same. Fans are reading far too much into the positioning of the start/select buttons, a layout that isn't even new to Nintendo handhelds, and internalizing the Circle Pad Pro add-on features.

If anything happens that's Wii U related, it will be for multiplayer only with a low resolution video stream tailored specifically around its capabilities being sent to it via WiFi in select titles. Essentially a modern take on the GBA to GCN link concept utilized in games like Four Swords back on the GameCube and a practical multiplayer option due to the popularity of the 3DS, unlike the long wished for dual gamepad multiplayer feature that was prohibitively expensive and limited to just two players by the Wii U's hardware.

But in no way, shape, or form can I envision this ever doubling as a 1:1 replacement for the Wii U's gamepad.
