I saw one of these on Amazon, and I did a few searches for reviews but didn't find much except forum posts. One guy on here named JJ has one, but for the life of me I can't figure out where the "PM" button is. Anyways here's a nice big pic of the thing I found through Google Image. Basically it's a Gamecube controller but with the buttons done in a more SNES arrangment, also they added an extra Z button. I can't tell from the pic so to whoever has one of these things, I'd like to ask some questions...

1: How good / big is the D-Pad? I remember it being uncomfortably small on the GC pad. Does it stay in one place, no wiggling or becoming crooked? (<< issue I experienced with CC Pro). Does it ever misinterpret signals? (ie: Pressing Right and instead going Right-Up or Right-Down).

2: How do the buttons feel compared to say, an SNES controller or a stock Classic Controller?

3: Do the analog sticks have good resistance, are the tops of the sticks firm with no wiggle? (<< issue I experienced with CC pro). I just wanna know this stuff before I even think about spending $39 on a controller...

Why would you want that? And there is no "PM" button.

Hmm, this looks interesting. It looks like it has turbo functions, too. If the D-Pad is good, I might get one of these, especially for playing Pulseman (need a good D-Pad for using Volteccor or whatever it's called) and Fatal Fury Special (can't beat a single opponent on the easiest difficulty due to lousy GameCube controller button mapping).

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Private Message.... so I could just "pm" the guy, JJ, who has one of these things and ask him what it's like instead of starting a new thread.

Oh, I thought you were talking about a button on the controller. But there's no button for PMs on NL

Yeah, would've been nice if they did... guess I'll just have to wait for JJ to see the thread, if he's even here anymore. I want a direct detailed opinion from someone who actually has one of these controllers, Amazon shows the product, but there aren't any reviews on it... for all I know it could have the same size DPad as the original GC pad, and that'd suck.

So why doesn't Nintendo life have a private message function? Sure would make this alot easier.

So I guess no one out there has one of these... except that guy I can't message because there isn't a friggin' PM function on this forum... >_<

It looks ok.

I recently got the gamecube mini classic controller which is excellent. Plugs directly into the GC port and is a hybrid of both controllers.

Can play Metal Slug collection properly and also Capcom vs SNK 2 which is the main reason I got it.

Also no batteries required to merely boot a game.

I get the feeling you're not talking about the Hori (since it plugs into the Wii-mote) and you might actually be talking about Radioshack / Gigaware's model which isn't actually a hybrid since it still has the stupidly shaped YXBA instead of true Classic YXBA like an SNES, Playstation, or Xbox pad. - http://www.radioshack.com/reviews/index.jsp?productId=3843993

Well, if you are talking abou the Hori GC Gameboy player controller - which is shaped like a SNES pad with a GC button layout - then yes, I have one. I use mine to play Capcom vs. SNK 2 and have now begun to play other fighters on the Wii with it since I feel that the CC is not that great for fighting games (I have a hard time doing a consistent hadouken).
If you get a new one, you will have to break in the d-pad a little (as a result, I sort of recommend buying a used one).
The top buttons are clicky but not too much. It's a very comfortable controller.
My only complaints are that they are hard to find, expensive, and the button layout would be better if it was shaped like the SNES. If you can find one for under $50, snatch it up - or email me and I will.

I am talking about the item shown and discussed at the begining of the topic.

And one of my friends had the flat Hori SNES / Gamecube hybrid controller, I tried playing some games with it and I still hated it because the Gamecube YXBA's just aren't very good for those classic SNES games. You know, stuff like Super Mario World where Y is Run and B is jump. I'm interested in the Hori "Classic Controller / Gamecube Hyrbid" because it has the octagon gated sticks, normal YXBA buttons, Start Home Select, and individual turbo. It also "appears" to have a decently sized Dpad unlike the GC controller, although my eyes could be playing tricks.

The other item I'm considering is Nyko's Wing. I keep seeing the wired version in light blue at my local Gamestop for $14.
But I try not to buy things without first getting details from someone who actually has one first... that way I know if it's good.

On Amazon, there appear to be two different kinds (the casing designs are slightly different), one that plugs into the Wiimote (and therefore won't play GameCube games), and another one that I think will plug into the GameCube port and play GameCube games. If I can find one and get confirmation that it will pay GameCube games, I'll get it. Anyone know of any websites in English that sell Japanese video game accessories for importing?

EDIT: Never mind. I found them on e-bay, and I guess there is just one kind. It plugs into the Wiimote, yet the product info mentions it being good for GameCube games. How can you have a GameCube compatible controller that doesn't use the GameCube ports?

The previously mentioned Radioshack / Gigaware brand controller has the extra z Button as well as Start Home and Select and a transmitter box that has a GC end and a CC end... but it has one of those crappy circular rocker Dpads that feels like it might snap if you press too hard and they still use the Gamecube button shapes which is total crap for any oldschool games. If only Radioshack had been smart enough to use real YXBA's and use a good Dpad and swap its position with the left stick.
