While I started gaming on the Nintendo 64 and It holds a lot of memories for me I think the GameCube might be my favorite console of all time

They not only Improved on the Nintendo 64 controller which was fine but the stick felt like It might break off
Nintendo made a controller that was so good It's still being used over 20 years later and I don't know why other companies never adopted this Idea, the buttons are different shape so you can tell without looking which Is which, the triggers are analog so you can choose how much water Mario sprays or how much Luigi sucks

The console design had a mix of kiddie and cool, I have a black gamecube but the console Is more remembered by the color purple, It was also compact compared to the Xbox and PlayStation 2 It even had a handle, this thing was made to take on holidays, even with 4 controller ports on the front

It didn't have a DVD player but this was Nintendo finally embracing disc based media, It also stands as my favorite way to play Gameboy games, curse the tiny d pad but I can play any gameboy game from gb to gba on my tv with full link cable support, easy on the battery, easy on the eyes and easier to capture

The famicom did have some weird horse racing thing and the SNES had xband but the gamecube was the first popular online nintendo console but It was only really used for Phantasy Star Online which Is still played online today thanks to fan servers, you can also play Kirby Air Ride and Mario Kart Double Dash online via Xlink Kai a lan tunneling service

but If you want to use It as Intented you need multiple gamecubes, controllers, tv's and people, I would love to be Invited to a mario kart lan party, normally with double dash you can only play 4 player but thanks to lan support you can add a second gamecube for 8 players, I don't recall how far It goes up to

This was also the era Nintendo experimented with IPs, Luigi got his own game finally In a starring role, the original Luigi's Mansion Is probably my favorite game of all time and while It did get sequels they lost what made the original so good, exploring this realistic for the time haunted mansion, It was so dark, the flashlight looked so realistic, ghosts would pop up In the darkness and actually make you Jump, you can beat It In a few hours and It's become a tradition that I beat It every single year

Star Fox Adventures Is a mixed game for some, I love having a break from flying and shooting, It gives a lot more personality when you can actually see Fox, the graphics are incredible as Is the soundtrack, and It's one of the few gamecube games to support widescreen but to some It's Just a zelda clone that used to be dinosaur planet

I can go on forever, we got a full pokemon rpg that still looks better than modern games, animal crossing got It's start here, sims games were on console, monkey ball

Smash bros melee Is the most competitive smash game off all time and even without that the adventure mode Is fantastic

We got a perfect emulated port of ocarina of time In 2002 while the n64 Just ended

If I could play any console for the rest of my life this Is It
Sadly the game prices are sky high and Nintendo for some reason has yet to give us a digital version

I was in different case.
I grew up by PS1 and PS2 games during my teen hood and college age from June 1998 (PS1) and June 2002 (PS2).
I grew up with DDR games, K-1 games, Monster Rancher 2 & 4 games, Punky Skunk, Bishi Bashi, Chocobo Racing, FF VIII, FF IX, FF X, FF X-2, FF XII, etc so as during my college age, I didn't have interest with Gamecube yet as PS2 was really dominating gaming market in my country Indonesia during early 2000's so I didn't follow the games from Nintendo Gamecube.
As I grew up and have a job, I have a chance to play Gamecube games on February 2017 from my Wii and I still prefer PS2 games as I have gaming interest that already shaped from my PS1 & PS2 gaming era. I have opened my gaming horizon from some never before played Gamecube games that still matched with my interest, not based on popularity.

Also, as a DDR gamer, Gamecube controller is not a right controller to play DDR Mario Mix as the button placement of ABXY buttons on Gamecube controller doesn't matched with four direction of DDR panel so I need a PlayStation style controller to able to play DDR games as it has exactly same model of button placement as DDR panel (🔲 🔺❌ ⭕).

@Caolan114 Very interesting read I never owned a GC and I might get one but I think I might invest in a mod that allows games to be played right from an SD card + the best video quality possible.

@Zuljaras I have a modded GameCube using an action replay disc and sd memory card adapter plus a micro sd card Inside the console

This is cool and all, but I think this could have gone in the existing GameCube thread. But don't call me a hater, mkay, cos I just bought another GameCube this week, taking my total to... 7, I think, with about 150 physical CiB games in the bank. I love the GameCube, it was my first console, but I don't think I can call it my favourite, for the simple fact that the Wii can do everything a GameCube can (ok, doesn't have Game Boy Player compatibility, but waddya gonna do, shoot me?), but also has the Wii generation of games and the fantastic Wii Remote and motion controls. And then the Wii U, with a bit of cfw, can do it all again (minus GameCube disc reading, admittedly, which is a downer) but with off-TV play and its HD library.

TL;Dr - everyone should have a GameCube, and a Wii, and a Wii U.

Totally agree, the Gamecube is still my favourite console, although the Switch might end up beating it by the end of it's life cycle. The Gamecube has so many games that are among my favourites in their respective series, and spawned a few great new series as well.

Some of my favourites include:

Wind Waker - My favourite Zelda game
Mario Sunshine - Used to be my favourite Mario game, possibly beaten by Odyssey
Baten Katos + Baten Kaitos Origins - Origins is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time
Harvest Moon a Wonderful Life -My favourite Harvest Moon game
Pikmin 1 + 2 - The start of an amazing series
Chibi Robo - Love this game to death and sad it seems to be dead in the water
Twilight Princess
Luigi's Mansion
Metroid Prime 1 + 2
Tales of Symphonia
Animal Crossing
Paper Mario TTYD

On top of this the Gamecube gave representation to so many Nintendo IPs. You had pretty much everything on the Gamecube, there was Pokemon, Star Fox, F Zero, Fire Emblem, Wario Ware, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc. Besides a more traditional Kirby game it had pretty much every big Nintendo franchise represented, without many duds in the bunch.

I haven’t got to experience most of the GameCube library, luckily wind water went to Wii U. If only they would remake thousand year door. Heck I would pay full price for a port.

Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG

@Cynas Baten Kaitos Origins is such a hidden gem. I get why no one played it. It's a prequel to an already niche title, and came out a couple months before Wii, but man is it fun and unique. One of the few jrpgs I actually finished.
Gamecube itself is fantastic. Love how it was such a compact design, but still managed to be on par with the other consoles. And it has 5 of my top 10 GOATs. Monkeyball, F-Zero GX, Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2, and of course Baten Kaitos Origins.
3rd party support could have been better, but was descent enough to fill out the library. I was never short on things to play. Most of the good eXtreem sports games of the time made it, and those were my jam. SSX, Tony Hawk, 1080 Avalanche, Wave Race Blue Storm, Def Jam Fight for New York, Freekstyle, Aggressive Inline, and all the Mario Sports games.
Gotta bring up Eternal Darkness, Geist, Custom Robo, Rouge Leader, Timesplitters.
