The GCN controller is the most comfortable controller to ever exist. Not only did it have a delightful contour to it, it also had perfectly sized buttons positioned in a way that you could access them with great ease. The sticks also performed very well, with a very nice range of motion complimenting many of the games for the system perfectly. It is truly an exemplary system.

Obviously you have never used an N64 controller otherwise you wouldn't have said what you said.
Also the Gamecube was one of the best controllers that gen. You want a bad controller from that gen check out the Xbox duke than say the Gamecube was a bad controller.

This. The only control I have problem with is the Xbox 360, especially when it comes to fighting games.

Xbox Duke controller was great imo. I loved having a large size controller. It seems to reduce hand cramps for me anyway.

I like the GC control button layout, it looked weird(and by weird I mean super cool) but it feels perfect in the hand(except the D-pad like @CountWavula said)
and the N64 was designed thinking no one would use both the D-pad and Analog stick at once, what was right for the time it was made, even the Z button is placed to substitute the L button when the player is using the analog stick(it's kinda like the Wii remote having many ways to hold depending on the game you're playing)
and personally I like those different controllers over the common ones, they feel like a perfect fit to hold and play for hours!(except the wii remote that one felt wrong when holding sideways and hurt my hand when it was with the jacket, maybe because I held it too strong being afraid to drop it or send it flying when my wrist strap was lost)

@Guitardude7 - yes, they all used it, and I know there are some more titles that implemented usage of the Control Pad, I was just naming a few examples that popped to mind, that's all.

i loved the xbox duke controller ! every other controller discriminates people with big hands (havent tried wiiU though)

i am more concerned about the placement of A B X Y. the xbox layout is way better. i am still confused on nintendo systems. A and B need be to changed. X and Y need to be changed, too.

you know these are just button "names" it's up to the developer on how to use them, in other words the "button placement" actually doesn't matter(in this case) Xbox's B can do what Nintendo's A can do and vice-versa that's the case for all the ABXY buttons on both.

Uh, why would Nintendo change the button layout when it's been like that since the SNES? Microsoft had to change it so it wouldn't be identical.
I don't think I have ever played a Gamecube game to be honest. I had an Xbox at that time so I have no feelings toward the Gamecube controller. The only time I played an N64 was at friends house for some MP since I had a Playstation and I didn't really like the N64 controller back then.
To blessed to be stressed.

Thank you. At least with Sony, they use shapes as their button layout. When you play games that is context sensitive like Naruto Shippuden UNS2 on the 360 when your used to nintendo's layout, you tend to press A when you're suppose to press B on impulse.

Yup, Gamecube controller has got to be the most comfortable controller of all time. From what little I've played on Xbox / 360, I like that one too. I've got a PS3 and I just cannot get used to its controller, games where you use the shoulder buttons tend to cramp my hands after an hour. PS4's looks somewhat more comfortable in this regard. I love Wii's controls as well, although its d-pad is better off being used for selection only. being able to keep your hands apart is a nice luxury, though. And I adore pointer controls.
(I should add that the Gamecube's controllers are incredibly long-lasting. My 4 controllers, bought back in 2002, are still all working like they did on the first day.)
The Nintendo 64 controller was the best and most innovative for it's time. But, three handles doesn't really sound like good design. Then, came the GameCube controller, which perfect everything that was great about the N64's, added a second analog, built-in rumble and two super comfy handles. I have big hands, but that controller is just perfect. I never owned a GameCube, but bought one controller to try on Brawl (subsequently, I got to play many GCN games and bought a second one for MP) and it was love at first sight. It's also the best controller to play N64 on Wii, and the absolute worst for everything else on VC, though.
I'm also starting to love this thing:
undisputed fact: Nintendo makes the best controllers.

If opinions are facts then I guess so.
I still think Sega created the best controller ever.
The Gamecube's biggest glaring issue was the d-pad. That d-pad was really useless being that tiny. Other than that I thought the form was great and button layout was all good. It was odd but it worked well.
I also think Microsoft created something great with the Xbox 360 controller. Because let's be honest about it, where do you think Nintendo got the idea of the form for the Pro controller?
