Okay everyone new topic In your opinion what happen to the Adventure Island series? In my opinion I think Konami forgot about Adventure Island cause they are moving to mobile.
The series died out a long time ago, Pianomanfreak. Hudson did a revival a few years ago for WiiWare, but the series itself has been dead since the mid 90's. It's not just that Konami is going mobile that the series is gone, it really has to due with the facts; the series while it has a cult following, never was terribly successful, financially (and that WiiWare Remake wasn't received that well either) and Konami hasn't even touched any of Hudson's back library in the 4 years that they'll held Hudson properties. No Bomberman, no Bonk, no Adventure Island, nothing.
Guys, we can't just blame everything on mobile. Look at the facts, the history and the reality of this current gaming market, before bemoaning "oh damn mobile, again!" Believe me, its a lot more interesting when you look at all the facts instead of gliding over the main problem and jumping right onto..."Its mobile's fault! Or So-And-So Company's fault!"

Adventure Island/Wonder Boy had an bunch of different problems.
1. When it was original made on SEGA hardware as "WonderBoy" they made an deal with SEGA to own the title/game/characters but that they ( whoever the original makers of Wonderboy are ) would own everything else including the games and could do whatever they want with it. When Hudson took over ( or Wonderboy was transitioned ) they made an couple of Animations/Comics as well as the remakes as Adventure Island.
Adventure Island started out as an port of WonderBoy. Every single game was remade and revamped from the Mark-III to the PCE/NES. The PCE all the games were revamped with added cut scenes and so forth.
For the NES the entire game was restructured. The NES versions of "Adventure Island" 1-5??? are complete original works that have been remade for the NES sub-culture group of children. However the games are really fun and stupid to play so it was very popular in that game world.
Then came the SNES games of Super Adventure Island. Meanwhile back in Sega Wonder boy had one last real original game but staring an female character.

Just to keep my answer short and answer your question. For the GCN an remake/revamp of the original Wonderboy/Adventure island was made. Other companies like "Wayfoward" made games that was obviously inspired by the series such as "Shantae" and "Shantae Advance".
So asking what happend? Hudson got absorbed into Konami and Konami is making games for cell phones and wireless devices.
^ Westone. Wonder Boy, as well as the first ever Adventure Island (Nintendo 8-bit port of Wonder Boy published by Hudson Soft), was developed by Westone. Also, only four Adventure Island games were made for the Nintendo 8-bit console.
I don't know but for some reason I could never get into the Adventure Island series, the only one I liked was the second one and even that was meh. Part of the reason is as a kid I found them really difficult and get frustrated easy with them. I remember renting the one on SNES from a local video store when I was a kid and playing for an hour or so and then it just sat on the side all weekend till my dad returned it Monday morning.

There were technically five if you want to count the Famicom-exclusive spinoff game Bugutte Honey, but I recall it was a pretty strange game (somehow mixing shooting and Arkanoid, if I remember it right) and based on anime.
Bugutte Honey is an episode after the TV series of the same name ( Basically Adventure Island Videogame hour or something along those line ). However if your counter comics/manga spin-offs their is this game for the SNES based off an goofy animation. I forget the name but it have fighting an giant octopus at the end.
I am thinking about that Manga/Animation where they live on an island. I just reference it as belonging to adventure island type games. The final boss is an Goofy octopus and the levels are linear. I just love these island things which is why SMW2: Yoshi Island was an fun game asides for all the psychedelic colors.
