The clue is in the name, lots of games for this console had super in the title, as also in a later generation a lot of games had 64 in the title, as in a later generation lots of games had Wii in the title, see the trend ???

Whoa, I finally see the world for what it is

Super World?
World 64?
Wii World?

If you want to know where you're supposed to be going and what you're supposed to be doing, then don't get it.

super metroid is one of the best games ever made, and in my opinion it actually is the best. there isn't a single weakness to find no matter how hard you look, every single element of the game was given so much work-

the graphics are amazing from a technical perspective, pushing the SNES as far as it could go, but more importantly they're great in an artistic sense too. the game has sort of a weird, depressing atmosphere created with deep beautiful colors that hasn't gotten any less disturbing with age. a lot of the visual effects, like the tracers that follow you when running at full speed, look awesome still today.

the attention to detail was unheard of back then; you'll see water splashing up from your footsteps, you can faintly hear a rainstorm pelting the surface of the planet after you've gone underground, little insects scurry away when you come near, samus' visor will glow when you enter a dark cave as if she has some sort of night vision on, ect.

the music is some of the best ever in a video game, it always blends with the environment you're in perfectly and there isn't a single song that isn't great on it's own. it's one of those games where you'll have the music etched into your head years after you play it.

then the gameplay itself is just great. the physics of controlling samus feel just right, i never get tried of being able to jump off of walls and flip around acrobatically. having to actually figure everything out for yourself is also a nice change of pace from modern day hand-holding. every boss is epic and you'll always feel challenged during the fight. i could go on and on, but there's just too much to say, download it now and see for yourself. super metroid is a fine place to start the series.

by the way, i could swear i've seen this exact thread before...

Should you'll get Metroid? Maybe you'll shall. :3
Okay, enough wordplay, of course you can get it; if you like complex mazes and difficult challenge and all.

Super Metroid is easier compared to the original Metroid, megaboomface.

the original metroid is hard because there's no map and no memorable landmarks to use on your way. there are a lot of environments that repeat and just change the color to seem new, so it can be very hard remembering where things are and a little less than gratifying to explore the worlds. also, dying sucks.

super metroid still has a lot of wandering but gives you a map and some subtle clues about where to go next if you're paying attention. for instance, after getting the gravity suit you're immediately dropped into a lake where you discover what the suit does for your underwater mobility. you should then be able to say to yourself "now i can get into that one place". most of the game progresses that way; there are enough hints that you can explore the worlds with at least a vague idea of what you're looking for. my favorite hint involves a broken glass tube you come across, but i won't spoil that. the worlds change so often and are so radically different that you should also have no problem remembering what parts of the world are which. it makes the exploration fun instead of frustrating.

Also, stop saying "I'll"! It's "I"! "Should I get Metroid!

I think that was brought up already, but yeah, it is really annoying.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Feh, Metroid isn't hard. Stop scaring the kid away from a great classic, people.

(also, Metroid is better than Super Metroid.)

Metroid is junk... Stop spreading lies...

Well, to each his own, as I always say. I should probably give it another go, and maybe make my own map while in the process.

put it this way- it's a worthwhile game to play if you like the series, not so much if you've never played a metroid game before. it's an important game, being not only the start of the metroid series but also one of the first non-linear games ever made. it's just that it hasn't aged well and it's a little hard to appreciate it's achievements when super metroid dances circles around it.

This.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
