Consoles Conversion mods suck
Why i love console mods when done right?

I love console modding such as RGB mods, 60hz mods, Region Free mods, mod chips, perhaps even led mods such as replacing the power led, for example, on the Pal Dreamcast which has a Blue Logo but for some reason it has an orange led and changing it to blue makes the system look better on the Pal DC. I also like SD/CF mods where you can preload it with a lot games, Fan Upgrades, Universal PSU, Recaps, Reballs, custom shells like XCM Shells, Ventilation mods like on the PS3 to improve cooling and it's hidden or like on the 360 where this person made very neat holes in the system and added 2 extra fans all to prevent Red Ring of Death or the Yellow Light of Death the mods looks neat as if the original company did it especially those CF mods on the Dreamcast and some of those fan mods on the Xbox 360.

I also love handheld system mods such as replacing screens or improving the screen on handheld systems such as Gameboy Backlights, GBA AGS 101 mods, Sega Game Gear/ Atari Lynx LCD screen mods, speaker mods, VGA out, HDMI out, button mods such as the tactile button mods for the shoulder buttons on the GBA. Or just a simple restoration like replacing the bad laser that doesn't read disks, clean, refurbishment and these kinds of mods preserve the systems original function and enhances it. There are plenty of services where people can mod your systems for you just watch out for Drakon or other scammers make sure to ask for pics before sending it in.

Why i hate it?
Back to the title, there is a cancerous side to console modding, sure there is bad paint jobs and excessive hot glue crap but there is also ***** like putting a Raspberry Pi in a console case or putting a PC in a console case. These mods are beyond stupid and it basically turns your console into worthless scrap as a collector and a gamer. I want a pure and authentic experience if i wanted emulation i'd go on my PC that is in a case that it is meant for or a Raspberry Pi, a nice compact case designed for the Pi like the Retroflag case they have many console-style cases and there are 1000's of cases out there for these things. When it comes to the original system it's not the same not many replacement parts out there say if bought a console with a broken shell it would take me a while to find a replacement shell due to it no longer being made.

I and many others want the system to be original i want to be able to play my carts on it, i want the soul core of what made the system great to still be in there. I want be able to know what the architecture was like on these old systems. I and many others do not like generic crap in these consoles that are going to go obsolete in a few years and then there are mini systems like the NES/SNES Classic, PS1 Classic, C64 Mini, Atari Flashbacks, upcoming Sega Megadrive/Genesis Mini, N64 Mini which make these converted consoles even more of a piece of crap. There is a reason why games consoles are still valued and other pieces of electronics are in landfills. There is a reason why people pay a lot of money for a C64 or a 1998 PC build. Why? To play their physicals games, better compatibility, not emulation and to capture the original look. Same can be said about cars with those Ricers ruining the classics. Another thing i don't like is Gameboy Zero mods i think this is cool because there are plenty of Gameboy shells out there but it has no proper shoulder buttons and no analog sticks and the Raspberry Pi can emulate PS1 would rather just stick to my PSP. Anyways share your thoughts.

Ok this is some weird spam.

At least it’s not just the links though, bonus points for that.

Edit: ok due to popular demand, aka one third party asked nicely, we will reopen this thread.

Please don't overstuff your threads with urls and links, since that's spam.

@Yosheel I don't use this forum much but all you had to do was warn me and give me a timeframe to make my edits. I'm just educating people on what a good mod is and what a bad mod is and i wanted to showcase it through the links. Butchering a console and putting PC or a Raspberry Pi in it is not okay and i want let others know that there are far better ways to mod and repair your systems and enhance your experience not to turn it into a generic emulation box and then to trash it when a company releases a mini version of the same system. This is not good for the RetroGaming/Collecting Community that want to preserve and enjoy the classics the best way which is on the original systems.

@redd214 Someone needs to call the butchering of consoles out. What triggered me was when a person put a Raspberry Pi in an Atomic Blue N64 that vid was cringe and the Pi can barely handle N64 emulation.

@iVirtual No, no you dont. Let other people do what they want with their own devices. In no way shape or form is it hurting you at all. Grow up.

@subpopz My point being is i just don't get it why you would you destroy it like for example what if someone took a Neo Geo or something they had laying around that isn't common treated as another obsolete piece of tech because a lot of people can be inspired by these awful videos and tutorials and off to destroying a console or a vintage computer. They take it apart and don't know what they did with the motherboard and the other things. Got a saw and start making cuts to the original casing that wasn't made to have something else in it for it to fit hot glue the parts in. Wouldn't that make you cringe? It would make a lot of us cringe? I love emulation but i also like original hardware and there is no need to destroy these awesome systems. I am just separating the good from the bad that is all. By the way, RetroFlag has some awesome compact NES, SNES and Megadrive/Genesis cases designed for the Raspberry Pi. Don't promote these mods.
