I guess I thought because of Smash that Nintendo was still making new GameCube controllers. Now I'm sad. A sealed controller goes on eBay for $100. I really do not want a used or refurbished controller, but I guess I have no choice. And I can't imagine there's a single third party model worth owning. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
@Dimjimmer : Those aren't actual GameCube controllers though, they are "GameCube-style" controllers for use with emulated GameCube games on the Switch 2 (not sure if the controllers are at all compatible with the Switch 1 and/or with any other games).
@Dimjimmer my fault. I wasn't clear. I meant controllers for the actual console. Though the Switch wireless are awesome of course.
In that case, the last true Gamecube controllers were made back in 2018 when Smash Bros Ultimate was released. They were black and branded with the Smash Bros logo (they looked like that) And since then, their price has, in typical Nintendo fashion, skyrocketed.
@Gryffin
I mean, the NSO GC controller may not be an "official GC controller" but it's exactly the same shape, better quality, has extra buttons and functionality like gyro aiming and HD Rumble 2 and 4 shoulder buttons. It works as a pro controller for any NSW1 or NSW2 game on Switch 2. And the analog shoulder buttons work for Trials Rising, so you don't have to rely on right analog.
If you want one for an actual GameCube though, Nintendo did manufacture new GC controllers for Smash that were $20. And I was able to buy a like-new Wavebird for around $50 a few years back.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
@JaxonH right. I want a controller for my actual GameCube. Nintendo stopped making them shortly after their reprint with Ultimate and now they cost a fortune sealed.
@Gryffin There are actually a fair ammount of third party controllers that come with a GC dongle, and work on Switch and PC as well.
Best one is Retro Fighters Battler GC pro.
But you may also want to check out the NYXI Warrior.
@Gryffin
Just search up a retro game store near you and check it out. Most will carry first-party controllers, used obviously, but I've found some really great ones, particularly for my SNES. Buttons still very clicky, d-pad still feels good, etc.
