Topic: Does anyone else feel like this gaming generation isn't as good?

I didn't call you clueless. I said it to a user who was offensive to me to begin with. We're talking about this generation of gaming, so it's obviously on-topic to say which consoles of this generation are good or not in our opinion. And in my opinion, the 360/PS3 suck and the Wii is awesome. It's a short, succinct, not elaborated sentence. I was expressing my opinion that the Wii is better. I think most users here, even if they have other consoles, will agree

Ok then. No hard feelings I know other users have more than one console. I guess I shouldn't have said that they sucked. Just that the Wii is better.

Why? Well, it's simpler, it's cheaper, the games are cheaper, the interface is much more customer-friendly, it's quick (load times), ready free wi-fi that works easily, it's quiet, it's apparently more reliable, there is a huge diversity of games, there are Nintendo games and Nintendo really makes an effort into the games they're making, you're buying a console that has behind it a company that has been doing gaming for more than 20 years, longer than the other corporations, it constantly innovates (eg. balance board) and it has a huge selection of VC and Wiiware titles as well. But the number 1 reason I think the other two consoles suck is because their fanboys. Now I did the same now because I was sick of it, but if you go to any gaming forum in the internet, if you go to youtube or whatever, you'll find thousands of disgusting users who will attack and ridicule and disparage the Wii... this put me off from these consoles altogether. I never see Wii fans going to OTHER forums (PS3/360) or other reactions to stories and attacking those consoles.

This generation, to me, is every bit as good and interesting as the gens before it.

But there are a few things I don't like about it:

*Nintendo's current target audience. Seems as though most of the 3rd party games aren't even aimed at real gamers. I can think of a fairly large list of amazing games on the Wii, but this generation, N is more aimed at casual gamers.
*Fanboys. Then again, I scoff at the fanboys just about every other gen. PS3/XBOX 360 fanboys drive me batsh*t crazy because in their eyes, a game's only good if it's M-rated.

Thank you for finally elaborating on your opinion. That's all we were asking for, and you had some really good points for why you like the Wii more.

Except I do have to mention one thing...

That happens all the time. Seriously, give me a few minutes to look for them, I'm sure there's some gold out there, especially on IGN and Gamestop.

On Topic:

Personally, I think the only major difference between this generation and the last is, as others have mentioned, that the demographics that companies are trying to appeal to have changed. You see a lot more games aimed at young adults and Non-gamers, and not a whole lot in between. Personally, I'm fine with that, because since I am a young adult, that means there are a lot more games that appeal to me. Sure, there are a lot of shooters and action games(but none more than Last Gen, unlike what many would like to believe), but in my opinion, they are better than the shooters and action games of last gen. Plus, if I'm in the mood for other genres, it's not that hard for me to find a good horror, fighter, strategy game, or RPG on my 360(Whole different story on the Wii, though), and if I want some old-school action, there's always the downloadable games, as well as the occasional disc game.

Again, I have no quams with this generation. It's just as good as the last, in my opinion, or perhaps even a little bit better.

really? that would actually make me happy to see it, in a a weird way... Did you ever check out the Video Games community at AMAZON? Full of 3000 Wii haters. Maybe 1 or 2 guys liking the wii. Then you can see talkbacks to articles in destructoid or other blogs... they write about a wii game and 300 responses against the Wii. They write about a 360/PS3 game, and no Wii guy even comments. IGN's articles are even worse in that sense.

This GEn has been the best for handhelds. The DS is the best nintendo handheld and the PSp and iphone aren't bad either.

Everything you just said epitomizes my feelings on the current gen. Everyone is throwing around examples of great games this gen, but they're just not "my cup of tea". Even Nintendo's best games these days were better last generation. Everything is heading in a direction I'm not following, and I've become a niche gamer. That's why my favorite games on the Wii are criminally underrated ones that few people have played. I know there are still good games out there, but I have to look much harder than before, because the good games, to me, are no longer the big name titles as they were before. There are a few developers who still put out quality games, but those games aren't very popular, because they aren't following today's gaming crowd.

Define "adventure game". That's a pretty amorphous term.

All the current, stylish, hi-def 3D games (of any genre) are progressing.
Meanwhile, the older styles of games - particularly side-scrollers - are making a huge comeback.
A Boy and His Blob, Klonoa, Muramasa, Blaster Master: Overdrive, NSMBWii, NyxQuest, LostWinds, 'Splosion Man, Castlevania/Contra/Gradius Rebirth, Mega Man 9/10. These types of games have been, for the most part, MIA since 1996 (N64).
I'm so happy these games are making a comeback and finally we have all genres co-existing and progressing towards the future. I feel that this is truly the golden age of gaming.

I would agree that Twilight Princess definitely isn't as good as previous Zelda games but they still have a chance to redeem themselves with this new Zelda game and "technically" it was meant for Gamecube though I liked the updated controls. The Wii has been getting better and better as time goes on. Especially if you have played the other consoles this generation is with out a doubt better than last but I can't knock some of the older systems since i have a lot of good memories there.

I love SNES. 16 bit generation is best!!! Wii games aren't like Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World & Super Mario RPG. And, Yoshi's Island DS sucks! It's....just...GAAAHHHHH!!!!!! ...................................(sorry)

I kinda agree, but I think the cause of this is the fact that we've basically done everything there is to do except make graphics better. We've already gone to the greatest depths of the universe, we've already saved the princess, and we've already saved the world for the 1,000 ^th time. It's just that we can't do anything completely new.

Microsoft and Sony are trying too hard to turn video game systems into multimedia consoles. If I want that, I'll buy a computer (a Sony one with Windows, if you like).

Video game systems should be just that. Beacuse the Playstation only played video games, it had more focus on video games. That's why the PS2, PS3, Xbox, and 360 all suck. Because they've overemphasized the systems' internet, CD, and DVD capabilities.

Concerning graphics and adult material, it's all about what's "the latest thing". Since "mature" games are more sophisticated, they're also viewed as more original. People have "tired" of the old Mario stuff.

In connection with adult cartoons, it all has to do with censorship. Many kids these days are allowed to watch whatever they want, play whatever games they want, etc. Of course they're going to play Metal Gear Solid instead of Mario. Of course they're going to watch Family Guy instead of Rugrats.

My favorite generation of gaming was the playstation and 64 days. ahh... the golden memories. however, i don't think this generation of gaming is bad.

i dont think this gen is bad either, but i loved last gen with the GCN and PS2

This Generation of Games is not as Mind Blowing as The Last. But
As Far as I can see for this Generation of Gaming, it Been mostly about making Games look Real, Feel Real, Or Put you in the Game.

But This Generation or Gaming is not over yet, Something Good or Bad is coming Soon, But we will have to Wait to Find Out

Hopefuly is not The Down Fall of Video Games again.
and I don't Think Mario can Save it this Time.

LOL, the industy is probably bigger and more popular than ever, it doesn't need saving and is nowhere close to a downfall.

While the 16-bit era will always be the peak for me personally, this has been a fantastic generation and one that I've thoroughly enjoyed. And as was stated, it's been more popular than ever. Who can complain?
