Title. And does FF7 Remastered include the base FF7 game?

Pretty sure remastered is just a upscaled version of the original.

You know what they say. All toasters, toast, toast!

FullbringIchigo

@Rutty_YT it looks smoother and has built in boosts (aka cheats), the ability to turn off random battles and increase the game speed by 3 times

otherwise it's the same as the PS1 original

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

As long as you do mean the switch version as your in the switch thread then yes, but if you mean the ps4 title FF7 remastered then it's a different story

You talking about the version on Switch, Steam, PS4, Xbox from a few years back? (which isn't actually called "Remastered"). There's almost no difference. It's the original game with just a few minor tweaks.

Or are you talking about FF7 Remake, which just released exclusively on PS4. It's a completely different game, based on the same original story, but with some massive changes. And no, it doesn't include the base game.

If you're gonna play FF7 Remake, you probably should play the original game first though. It does kinda assume you know what happens in the original.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Turns out I made a big mistake. I thought they remastered FF7 on switch. Actually FF8 got remastered and not FF7.

Which is why this thread clearly says FFVII Remastered? Now you say it's FFXII Remastered, which also doesn't exist anywhere!
This being in other gaming, we'd expect it to be about games not on Nintendo systems but now we find out it is one of those
So, now we know it must be FFVIII remastered you're talking about, @Rutty_YT. That is a standard remaster, so the actual game is the same

@BruceCM Well (puts pedantic hat on), Zodiac Age is a remaster of FFXII, more or less...

(Takes off pedantic hat, dusts off a few particles, then accidentally drops it and watches helplessly as it rolls under the couch, where it is eaten by spiders...)

Not really, @Krull ... Here's a list of differences:
1) New Job System
A year after Final Fantasy XII was released in the United States, The International Zodiac Job System edition was released in Japan, featuring a re-haul on the license board.

2) In the original game, all the characters shared one license board which limited customization. In the International Zodiac Job System edition, players could choose from one of 12 different classes based on a sign of the Zodiac for their characters. The only downfall in this was that since there are only 6 characters, players would have to play the game twice to be able to try out all 12 of the classes.

3) Updated Magicks
Due to the new job system, the Magicks system received a huge overhaul. The majority of the spells have changed type and have new stats.
4) Speed Mode
Fans of the original Final Fantasy XII will rejoice to hear that with the simple push of (L1), there is now an option to move 2x or 4x faster than normal.

5) New Map Function
The days of having to pause the game every time you want to look at the map are over! All it takes is pressing (L3) to have a transparent map overlaid on your screen. This enables the player to see themselves traverse the area in real time. Simply press (L3) once more to remove it from your view.

6) The Zodiac Age introduced a handful of new weapons, including the Vrsabha Spear, Dhanusha Bow, and Simha Sword, and changed the attack power of a handful of others. Most notably, Donjuro and Wyrnmhero Blade are missing from the list, having been removed from the game entirely.
5) Trial Mode
An all new feature introduced in the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Age. Trial mode can be accessed from the title screen, and can be played at any point from the story mode. Players are able to take their team through 100 different stages of enemies which get progressively more difficult as you progress.

The convenient part is that all LP points and loot gained during Trial Mode are carried back over into the story mode when you return to it.

7) Visual and Audio Enhancements
The original score has been re-recorded with a full orchestra making it even more epic than before. There is still the option to play with the original soundtrack, but the nostalgia brought on by the re-recorded score is just as glorious.

Textures and lighting have been reworked, in addition to introducing current generation depth-of-field effects, making the view even more beautiful than before. Voice acting is now high definition and players can choose between English and Japanese voice tracks.

Along with a few other minor changes .... That was then remastered for Switch & PS4, which is the 1st time it's been available in America/ Europe, etc

Krull

@BruceCM Ah, I see you found my pedantic hat! I thought the spiders had eaten it...

What part of your reply refutes mine, though? Zodiac Age still sounds like a remaster of FFXII, with added tweaks. Much more comprehensive than the bare-bones (pun most definitely intended!) Dark Souls remaster.

There's a lot of 'tweaks' there, more than you'd generally expect in a remaster, @Krull.... It was just trying to be clear on the OPs question but they've now realised it was VIII remastered they meant, so that's cool & if anyone was wondering about XII Zodiac Age, there's the list for that as well

Krull

@BruceCM Yep, that's definitely all cool! It poses the interesting question of what to call Zodiac Age, though. More than a remaster, less than a remake... We need more categories!

Yeah, it can get confusing, @Krull..... But FF games have often had that problem, with so many releases of some games. Usually adding little bit of content, effectively but still
