So I was thinking about two different games, that for two very different reasons I never went back to a long time ago, and I figured, nothing better to do than to make an internet forum thread on this internet forum. So what are some games you tried out, not recently, but you stopped and would like to give another chance to at some point.
One of them is Excitebots: Trick Racing. I had heard some real positive hype for this game when it was new, though like most of the best games on Nintendo in 2009, no one bought it. It seemed like a far crazier version of Excite Truck, and since the Wii Wheel fixed the issues I had racing with Excite Truck for Mario Kart Wii (is this a hot take, I hope not, I hated racing with just the Wiimote in Excite Truck), that I wanted to give this one a shot. But like...the day after I first played a bit of Excitebots, our Wii broke so I had to get that fixed (hilariously our Xbox 360 broke around the same time, so I was stuck playing Gamecube again for a little bit). And then when I got it back, I think I was distracted by No More Heroes or something and just...never played it again.
The other is Yoshi's Island DS. Now this game I played for a couple of hours or so and...just didn't like very much. It felt like the bland version of Yoshi's Island, and with baby Peach, also the annoying version as they somehow outdid the crying of baby Mario in the original. Huge letdown from Yoshi's Island. But despite that, I do kinda wonder if I had gone into it with lower expectations than being marketed as a new Yoshi's Island, a sequel to one of the best games I've ever played, I would've liked it. It had some cool ideas I would want for a Yoshi's Island sequel, and props to having a version of DK and Wario in a Yoshi platformer (its weird to say that's a notable, pleasant surprise but until two years ago Daisy was never playable in a platformer, somehow). So I dunno if its genuinely not great, or if its like the Gamecube Pokemon games, where my high expectations made me not especially like the first one but enjoy the second one for what it was. I assume the former but as a Yoshi's Story enjoyer, I don't think its a guarantee.
No Man's Sky is a game I'm genuinely hesitant to play. I originally played the game at launch. Got the platinum trophy. And I dabbled with the Switch port a bit.
I would like to experience the nearly ten years worth of updates. But I get the feeling that if I centered my attention on NMS, that's probably 200 to 300 hours of playtime. I could finish so many other games in that span of time.
Too many games, not enough time to play them all.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,529 games (as of November 20th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 3 games (as of November 23rd, 2025)
@kkslider5552000 good pick with Yoshi DS. Look forward to hearing how that goes. Did you play the 3DS Yoshi?
Not really. Yoshi's New Island doesn't interest me for the same reason the multiple NSMB sequels didn't. It just seems like a hollow imitation that doesn't justify existing even by the standards of a samey sequel. DS at least had some bold new ideas, New Island from what I saw and heard about, did not.
Doubly so since the far more beloved Wooly World, released just a year later, amazing aesthetic aside, I think is merely 7/10 good.
I'm gonna say Sonic Frontiers DLC, I'm at the final boss of the DLC on Easy and I cannot figure out what to do to deal damage. The first time I was there for a 20 minute before I got bored and never bothered trying again. Maybe I can try it before I give my nephew his copy back.
Other games that popped up that I might go back are Kid Icarus: Uprising. I've been stuck on the stage before the Reset Bomb Forest for 7 years. I think it's time I go back and finish the game.
Starlink: Battle for Atlas. This is what people think Star Fox should be? No wonder I dropped it.
Speaking of Star Fox...
Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard. I want to go back to these games, but unfortunately my Wii U GamePad's battery is busted. This time is not because I think a game sucks, but rather a hardware issue. At least I got to beat Paper Mario: Color Splash before that happened.
