@kkslider5552000@BearClaus I often see heated discussions about Prime 2, especially with the bosses. But it's mostly agreed that everyone has trouble with either Boost Guardian or Spider Guardian, but barely anyone has trouble with both. Is it the same for you two?
I have to assume because they are vastly different bosses so people's gaming skills make it varied.
Though in my case, I found them both difficult the first time but Spider Guardian isn't that bad as long as your careful tbh. Boost Guardian is crazy difficult for that part of the game unless you're already good at the game (which is unlikely unless you played Hard mode of the first game quite a bit). It does set up Torvus Bog as blatantly the least fun part of the entire trilogy pretty well, if nothing else (though ironically, the boss itself is fun despite the ridiculous jump in difficulty)
@Kaze_Memaryu It's been a while since I've played Prime 2, but I only remember having a lot of trouble with the Boost Guardian. I think the Spider Guardian was tricky, but I don't remember dying on it repeatedly.
I'm a fan of the random difficulty spikes to be honest. One of the most memorable was Lost Number in FF7. Technically an optional boss so it makes more sense to have a spike.
I always remember though, train Aeris enough to get her Limit Break that paralyses enemies and it's piss easy.
First one that comes to mind, while not required to beat the game (but needed for completion) is Canary Mary from Banjo Tooie. The first time (in Glitter Gulch Mine) is fairly easy. The second, also in the mine, was quite challenging but beatable (though your hand will likely hurt from button mashing). The third time is in Cloud Cuckooland, the last world (though the game rarely got too taxing), and it's once again not too bad (harder than the first time but easier than the second). The fourth time (same place) is hell on earth. It is the moment in life when you decide there is no god and that a woman in a canary suit (I think?) should never cause anyone to cuss so much. If you physically survive the strain of the challenge, your reward is rather minor (though required for 100%) and likely will not make up for the years of therapy you now require.

God of War 3 - even on highest difficulty it's not that hard of a game, until you make it near the end. You have to jump down with wings (in my opinion, it was the worst idea and part of the game) and this in itself gets really hard to the point it's all about memorization and if that wasn't enough, after that you have to fight in hardest part of the game. You have to fight through cerberuses and these aholes with spears (worst. enemies. ever.), which is outragously difficult. And after that hard battle, the game doesn't even get back even close to that difficulty. Labyrinth is hard too, don't get me wrong, but at least there you can get rid off enemies fast and you have chest to replinish your health (and minotaurs too) and you can spam like crazy, but it can be difficult too and considered difficulty spike.
Xcom games, even the newer ones, are guilty of difficulty spikes. They start out easy and few missions later you get completely and absolutely slaughtered and murdered with constantly respawning enemies. It's especially unfair with missions when you have to rescue people and those spider-things slaughter civilians off the screen and turning them into zombies without giving you any chance to come to their rescue... their DMG and distance is ridiculous. The first one though was especially cruel with tech choices - if you chose wrong in the beginning, which 9 times out of 10 you will, you will get screwed sideways much later in the game.
@kkslider5552000 I disagree about Torvus Bog being the least fun part of the trilogy, that goes to Phazon Mines for me as that long path completely full of enemies and not getting a save point until after beating the invisible drone is incredibly harsh. I did struggle with the Boost Guardian due to constantly losing health with no way of replenishing it until after it's dead though.
Itrain Aeris enough to get her Limit Break that paralyses enemies and it's piss easy.
Aeris has Limit Breaks besides Healing Wind?
Lol, I know right. While they might have created one of the most memorable scenes in gaming history, they also guaranteed that no-one would ever use her on their second playthrough.
It's still not a particularly hard game, but when I think of sudden difficulty spikes I think of Six Golden Coins. That game is very easy throughout, and then suddenly it's actually challenging with Wario's castle.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.
Yes, an official Nintendo game can be, and Yoshi's Island DS was pretty much it. It was more kaizo than even the Lost Levels, since it deliberately tried to trick you with unfair death traps.
Watching another mod level... even though the player didn't recognize the music right away, I did and knew what was coming: a Battletoads level.
