@TommyTendo There's manufacturing shortages, it's the same reason why you can't buy a PS5 or Xbox. Steam's way at least avoids scalping on a larger scale.

If you really wanted one you should have joined the waiting list with everyone else. ;p

@TommyTendo Norway has not been included in the europe region? They have 3 areas right now (north America, GB and ireland, europe). In Portugal I could pre order One.

@Balta666 yup, got my 64gb a few days ago. You wont be disappointed, it is an awesome bit of kit.

According to Steam's store page, it's only available in the United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom. Norway isn't in the EU, but Portugal is.

Anyway, not to worry. We'll get to see how the AYA Neo Air, AYN Loki and Anbernic Win600 pan out soon and I'm pretty sure they'll all be shipping globally.

@Matt_Barber it may be that but more commonly countries like Norway or Switzerland are included even though not officialy in the EU

@Rallyeboy Nice, have you used it in TV mode so far? One of the reasons I want one is because I am struggling to find a good way to connect my gaming PC to the living room but as far as I understand now even when the dock will be available it will only output in 800p and it may meltdown if used for longer periods of time on demanding games... (I am not saying I would not use it in handheld but my switch I tend to play 50/50)

@Balta666 yes i have used it a couple of times with my laptop UCB-C dock and it works perfectly on my 1080p monitor. Its not as slick as the Switch docking process but you have to remember it is a PC, but you are used to the nuances of PC gaming by the sounds of things. There are loads of games that work even ones that are noted on Steam as "Unknown".

So Valve has apparently canceled the official dock. Or rather, "delayed indefinitely". It won't affect me, since I never planned to dock it anyways- I have my desktop PC connected to my TV and can use cloud saves to bounce back and forth. But for anyone who wanted a hybrid experience, that kinda sucks.

Will Nintendo Life do comparison tests between the switch and the steam deck? Does persona 4 golden/hades/risk of rain 2 run better on the switch or steam deck. I also wonder if the steam decks constant sales, force Nintendo to do the same, maybe not as drastic. Portal 1/2 on steam deck, $4. $20 on the switch.

Steam deck base model, $400
1TB sd card, $165
Portal, $4
Hollow knight, $7.50
Hades, $15
Total, $591.50

Oled switch, $350
1tb card, $165
Portal, $20
Hollow knight, $15
Hades, $15
Total, $565

But once the sales of games start hitting, the price difference will be in the steam deck's favor, along with catalog.

@PhhhCough
I really don't see the point of comparing the Steam Deck to the Nintendo Switch.
They're catering to different demographics, Nintendo has exclusives that'll never be on Steam, and as long as Valve doesn't sell their console in regular stores it'll forever remain a niche product.

That comparison is a bit disingenuous considering its comparing the most expensive Switch to the cheapest Steam Deck. Same goes for the pricing of the Portal games, the Portal games are on sale on Steam now, but both are $10 a piece regularly, they just came out on Switch. Doesn't matter anyway, last time I checked yesterday, the Portal collection was #2 on the eShop chart so I don't think people really care if they're discounted on Steam.

The Switch also has the 'just works' factor in its favour. Aside from the relatively small proportion of 'great on Deck' games, you're going to have to do increasing amounts of setup work the further you go down the compatibility list, and live with glitches and workarounds to complete games.

That's not to dis the Deck. Everyone I know who's got one thinks its great. It's just that, for most people at least, it's something to have that complements a Switch rather than replaces it.

@JaxonH Congrats. Must be fun having access to an entirely new type of platform.

I take it you're already testing out Monster Hunter on it?

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@JaxonH
Wow, congratulations.
Btw, could you confirm me if I can play The Sims games PC version and most importantly is playing Stepmania (Dance Dance Revolution maker on PC) on Valve Steam Deck ?

No good deed
Will I do

@JaxonH That's the last we'll see of you for a couple of weeks then.

From what people who've already got one are telling me, it's best to stick to "great on Deck" games to start with. Almost anything else can be made to run on it, but it's not necessarily going to be easy.
